The video and photos do absolutely no justice for this color at all.
I saw this color on an M6 Grand Coupe in Germany, and from 100 yards away I could tell something was different. Once it got closer, me and the crowd around me was basically in shock at how incredible the car looked. It looks similar to polished aluminum, not chrome, and it makes every line and contour of the design stand out in extreme ways. |

Some brands seem to be able to lay down much less orange peel than BMW though, even without color sanding. I'd guess the BMW folks are rushing the process through color and clear coats. |

Hmmm. I have alpine white on my M5 with zero orange peel. Looks like its hand wet sanded to perfection. My X5 mineral white is very smooth as well. This silver i would love to see in person to see what the big deal is. I'm just seeing silver in the video. Looks like normal silver. Probably has some deep pearl effect in person i'd guess.

Can't wait to see pics of this! I get to Newport quite often ... I might have to make an appointment with you to see it in person! Actually my moonstone M4 'vert should be arriving around that time - would be great to get pics of them together if you're game!

I agree, pretty douchy overall, it's not even a nice-looking silver. Looks super plain in the photos, though I'm sure it looks better in person. The goal was clearly "put the most expensive thing on there" rather than any real expression of personality.

I wouldn't personally pay an extra $10k+ for that paint job, but it is VERY sharp.
Thanks for sharing.

Well, you can forget all that. The new car is fitted with a turbocharged straight six. Turbocharging? In an M car? That’s like putting gravy on an ice cream. - Jeremy Clarkson, discussing the S65 and then S55 M3 engines. |

I'm not for the expensive option, but that's what it is an option. It's interesting that they would offer us something like this and I wouldn't put it past them to include even more exotic paints in the future. It's what they can do to set themselves aside when their lineups aren't as exclusive as other manufactures. Last edited by Arsonism; 11-30-2014 at 11:22 PM.. |

Pure Metal Silver sucks, ceramic brakes suck, competition package sucks, B&O stereo sucks, and also none of these options are worth the extra money. It's the same on every thread in these forums.
I almost forgot, I can put all the money I save on these worthless options into mods. Last edited by sealionbeast; 11-30-2014 at 11:13 PM.. |

The douchy part comes in where you buy the most expensive version of the most mundane thing imaginable. And I didn't say M5 and up didn't fall in the same criteria, the i8 is the only way I could see spending 6+ figures on a glorified German taxi.

Damn, is it just me or does this super pricey paint looks like a shinier version of SS paint?
Tbh, no wow factor for me.

Special paint
The price is reasonable, as a great deal of the finishing is by hand. I own a Pearl White Metallic 911, which was produced in the 80's (one week in the paint shop), for $15K. The finish is underlayed by ground fish scales to give it the high reflectivity.

I started off building my M4 in a special order color but decided against it.
The concept is excellent but the pricing is steep; for me at least. Still would love to see an M4 in Avus Blue! Also I don't blame the OP. The Silverstone color doesn't look good. If you like silver you gotta go with a special order or individual color. I know you will enjoy the car knowing you got exactly what you wanted. |
