My cousin picked up his Champ White R today, hoping to get a chance to check it out tomorrow. I am not a fan of the style at all. But very interested in getting a chance to drive it and see if it lives up to the hype.

The GTIs are sweet as well. I think the appeal is the fact Honda hasn't done the Civic Type R in the US so it's flashy and hip, the GTI is old news braaaaah.

I really wanna see a head-to-head with the GTI vs the Type R. The GTI beats the Si and the Golf R beats the Type R so I feel like that'd be an interesting comparison. Plus, a comparably equipmented GTI is already about as much as the Type R, so it only makes sense.

I have a deposit down for MSRP with my local dealer on their 2nd Type R that rolls in, and as someone who always wanted the Integra Type R during my teenage years (but could not afford it), I can not honestly wait to drive the shit out of this thing every day.

I'd maybe be doing the same thing right now, but I'm overseas all summer so hopefully in October the market's changed and I can find a sweet pre-owned one for cheap, or at least new for at or under MSRP. I refuse to play this bidding or market adjusted cost bullshit.

I wants to love this car, I really did. As a previous s2k and civic owner I thought this might be return to its roots. Reviews have been lukewarm and apparently the car is buick quiet.

Also just read dealerships aren't missing the opportunity to charge 15k over msrp.

Just talked with a local dealer in Utah, he told me all the incoming Type Rs are already reserved and they're not expecting any more until early 2018. But, they totally have some Sis available if I was interested and I was like byeeeee.

Well Type R arrives from regular cheap family sedan with slapped on cheap body kit, suspension, turbo, etc. R8 is a track car from the very beginning, expensive, amazing quality, and performance, with rear mid-engine layout, quarter mile times in 11s and 0-60 in like mid 3s, it's also AWD. It's the R8 that has clever engineering lol. Something doesn't add up .....

And just want to underline the shocking part again....FWD sedan with i4 hanging over front axel without 50/50 weight distribution vs AWD rear mid-engine V10. Whats next, we will have Civic DX kill M2/3/4

Who cares if it does? If I'm shopping for a M2 or F8x, I won't stop by the Honda dealer because their wrenched up base model is faster. Nobody cares. Honda is not in same consumer shopping category as a BMW, particular the M model lineup.

306 hp/296 lb.ft in a car that weighs about 3100 lbs. Also running 245/30/20 tires to clear the brakes/suspension. Basically take a 135i and remove 3-400 lbs. It's all about power:weight.

My old Civic racecar was around 300 hp, but only weighed around 2100 lbs. Would destroy the R8 or GT2 on track.

So basically what you are saying is that weight distribution, engine layout, drivetrain, high performance parts, supercar engineering....all that is just a bunch of bullshit that manufactures feed to customers? When in reality just slap wide tires and a turbo and you are all set.

PS. R8 and GT2 have much better power to weight ratio then Type R

Type R 306hp/295tq weight: 3150
2010 R8 V10 525hp/391tq weight: 3600
2000 Porsche GT2 456hp/450tq weight: 3150

All those Nurburgring lap times seem to me like bunch of bull........thats just my opinion

Ya, I don't put much stock in Nurb. lap times. You can build a car just to get the best lap there, but it could be terrible everywhere else. Maybe the Hype R is that way.

I saw on a youtube video that it does 0-60 in 5.7 seconds, not exactly blistering performance. A 2 wheel drive 330i can beat that time, and an xdrive is faster. Not sure why folks are paying upwards of $65K for a car that retails for $33K.

If you are shopping for M2, I assume you want M performance and BMW engineering. But according to all those lap times etc, it turns out its all crap and Honda performance and engineering is much better even on German track If this was true I would care.....

Can someone put the nuremburg times for M2, M3 and Civic Type R in one place for me to compare? Something seems fishy here, it's only the fastest front wheel drive car from what I hear.

Yes, I know you can build a car to make it fast. But this Civic looks like a decent grocery getter too. There is like 4 settings for steering, suspension, and engine etc. Should be pretty comfortable even on those 20s

Edit: there is a review that talks about suspension, guy said even in R+ mode on those 20s it's very decent over the normal street bumps

I can't speak for others who's sole vehicle will be the Type R. For me, I want a $35k and under vehicle that's manual, 25+ mpg, and fun to drive, as it will be my daily driver. My M4 is my weekend end 'fun car' (some people do Porsche, exotics, but M4 is plenty of car for me. And I don't want to spend more than $70k on a 'fun car')The Type R checks all the boxes for me for a fun daily driver. My STI is out, Type R is in.

Also, a stock M4 is slower than a 'stock' Type R around the ring. I could care less, because the M4 is still a more superior car than a Type R, and 'fan-boy' rhetoric will never be able to convince me otherwise. And I am a Honda fan.

Usually, anything 300 HP or more + FWD = torque steer

But it seems that the Honda engineers have figured something out here. Quite brilliant imho.
