You chose that as something to respond to, out of my entire post?
Before you go off on US exploiting other races, BTW, could you explain the Belgian Congo? |

My grandparents and parents lived the horror on a daily basis. Most Americans didn't even realise what was happening over here. Besides, until Pearl Harbour, the Americans weren't the least interested in what was happening in Europe. We were already two years at war before you arrived. As far as the Marshall plan is concerned, this was merely a plan to make the European countries dependant upon the US. You planted your nuclear weapons in our backyards without us having anything to say about it. BTW: most Belgian towns were liberated by the Polish! |

YES! Finally a decent non-biased post on this subject. I've tried to get this very point across several times. I believe this says it all - excellent post e90rocks and sorry to hear about your patient. Sounds like he lived a long rich life.

My mother grew up in occupied Shanghai and my father grew up in Manila, so don't think you have the monopoly on family war experience. The war started in Asia before Europe, actually, if you count Japanese in China. The Chinese and Philipino's whom I know do not go around denying that American forces liberated them from Japanese occupation, even though US ground force presence in mainland China was virtually nonexistant. For example, Gen. Chenault and the Flying Tigers (US Army Air Corps) are well known to my parents and their friends' families.
The US intervened on both fronts. If you want to deny American influence on the European theatre of WWII you are in serious revisionist history, and are beyond help. How do you imagine Poles got to Belgium? Did they come up through the soil after tunneling beneath Germany? While expatriot Polish forces were effective and showed valour in various tactical situations, like in Italy, they were not a major strategic entity. As far as being accusatory of American nonintervention at the eve of the war, here is where you contradict your own arguments about the US needing to stay out of other people's problems. You can't have it both ways. You still have not commented on the Belgian Congo. |

I believe that in belgium is actualy in this transition. The June 1999 elections saw an upheaval in Belgian politics. Political scandals and the perception of poorly managed government led to the ousting of the coalition of Christian Democrat Jean-Luc Dehaene. The temporary escape from prison of a notorious pedophile revealed deep discord among community and national police forces and caused a public outcry. A series of bribery and corruption charges against high-ranking officials, yielding a number of convictions in December 1998, brought the long-powerful Flemish Christian Democratic Party (CVP) of Dehaene into disrepute. The final blow against the government came in early June 1999, when health inspectors discovered that dioxin, a cancer-causing agent, was present in chicken feed. The European Union (EU) charged the Belgian government with covering up information about the presence of dioxin in the food chain and banned the sale of Belgian chicken in EU-member states. The long-ruling Christian Democrats were thrown out of office. The Liberals, traditionally ranking third behind the CVP and the Socialists, prevailed with the largest number of votes. Not since 1937 had the Liberals been able to name a member of their party as the head of government. Guy Verhofstadt replaced Dehaene as prime minister on 12 July 1999. The virus of left talk is there and it explains the theoretical dogmas against US. This is the real problem and when REAGAN achieved the fall of the wall, millions of europeans could be free but this socialist talk is always present. They dont talk about the great socialist MILOSEVIC but they attack US as their positions are against capitalism. Socialism is death and they dont know the facts " Belgium was liberated in 1944 by British, Canadian, Australian, and American armies " http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History...um#See_also_12
they should try to study and learn. |

Let' see where to start...this is so good. - Ronald Reagan, so he was an actor and became a politican? Same with Arnold in Cali. Your point? Any person can hold office in the US (with certain stipulations President= 32 years old and US citizen). This isn't some privileged elite social club here. - Bush, why all the Bush hating? He has some pros and cons...I bet I could do the same with your current administration. - Your monarchy in Belgium still has power...look at your form of government. King Albert II (1993) Your democracy is under a form of monarchy. Despite only having only largely ceremonial and symbolic role in the nation...he is still the King and in charge. - The Belgian Government is modeled after the US government in terms of the constitution. - The Verhofstadt administration has it's fair share of problems as well, rising health care costs, improving foreign advancement, Lisbon reforms agenda, "Flanders" issue. Belgian food crisis (1999)...I mean really we can go on and on comparing Bush and Guy Verhofstadt and what will that accomplish...nothing - I only did a quick search on Belgian Politicians since this isn't my specialty...so I don't know all of the issues at hand and just choose broad topics. Read over 20 pages of Belgian politics…it was a learning experience but still I’m not in Belgium - American influence and culture encompass the entire world...fact of life. I don't think you can say the same for Belgium. - So the US is associated with MacDonald’s and Wal-Mart...is that really a bad thing? I can think of other things the US is associated with namely freedom and democracy and the American Dream? What does Belgium stand for and do people outside of your country know this? - American companies are located throughout the world and are some of the most dominate in the world economy. - American idol Paris Hilton? America has so many idols I don't know who's who this week. - War over oil...read my last statement on the war in Iraq. Economies are driven by oil...hence is it termed national security...hence American interests. - Why did Belgium go into Africa during the period of colonization? I guess I could call that a "War on {insert whatever stereotypical term} - Belgium, like the US has blood on it's hands as well no country is perfect -Belgian King Leopold II--the Congo Free State-- became one of the more infamous international scandals of the turn of the century (20th) (Casement Report) - During the early 19 and 20th centuries Belgium grants itself total immunity from its own laws, having rejected litigation on cases such as Belgian atrocities in Rwanda. - Many cases of Belgian mistreatment of Africans...murder, rape...so...your point? - Murder an entire race...Are you talking about Indians? I think you can say most of the Indians have been assimilated into our culture and you can still find Indians still living on Indian reservations in the States. I don't think they are extinct and you tend to over exaggerate every claim you have. - What other race of people are you talking about? - You think we are going to stay in Iraq...I don't see the US reverting to Colonialism and "colonizing" Iraq and putting it under a de-facto American ruler...but hey I don’t' know...the media comes up with strange things now days. Seriously this is pointless...but I'll bite. We can trade tit for tat for the next 100 messages but comparing the rap sheet on the US vs Belgium. Why don't you take some time and research and learn about the United States before you assume so many generalizations. Did you even research the Indian claim you made? Both sides can present their view however the way you are doing it is wrong...and see my response...it's an attack on Belgium...a more constructive argument would invite a constructive argument from myself. But both of us can play "Attack and find anything wrong card" Or say "Just because you were wrong on this occasion or because you did this you are wrong again" but it is not true. Resorting to generalizations about a country based on the actions/thoughts of a few means you fail to see countries are complex organisms - with individuals acting in thesis and antithesis.
Who would really wan't to live in a country without diversity - and where everyone thought the same way? I am a conservative - but I respect and rely on the viewpoints of liberals to help me keep an open mind. |

I never stated that Belgium is any better than the USA. I am the first to criticise our government and our royals (who have not much more than a ceremonial function, by the way).
However, I do have the feeling that Americans think they are better than everyone else and need to impose what they think is "the right way" (= the American way?) onto the rest of the world. Every time someone makes an observation about your way of doing things, you use the words "freedom" and "democracy". Maybe it is time you realise that "the American dream" is not the dream of the rest of the world. Just for the record: I have the utmost respect (like all Belgians) for the veterans (from whatever country they come) that fought here in Europe during WWII (they are still honoured every year). However, the people in power should have more respect for veterans in general. And again I will get flamed for what I am about to say: not one single American administration present or future ever showed respect for its veterans (Vietnam, Gulf, ...). |

You sound like a real girly man now that JB 330ci has utterly destroyed your reasoning and comments. And you will be corrected on your latest ignorant post. Do you even have any response to JB's points? Of course not. This is what happens when eurotrash and liberals are revealed and their pants pulled down. Retreat like the French. The truth is you are bitter that the USA is so damn good. Why don't you channel that energy into doing something to make your country a better place? You could learn a lot from the "stupid" americans you despise so much. |

I'm in love with his ability to reveal people like you for what you are. Thats his job fool! People like him keep the US safe. I don't have enough knowledge of the subject to properly and convincingly destroy you but he does. SO yes, I am too ignorant. It's not my specialty. And yet again you don't reply to any of JB's points. Coward. |

You know, on Belgian forums we treat people with a little more respect and don't insult them. Oh well, I guess it's just another American habit. |
