Ugh, I don't even want to imagine the foul smell coming from trash fermenting in the water. It's obviously hotter much more of the year than it is up there. It's December and we are still running the AC.

Not so much a trick, but I recently bought expanding foam tape to seal up the outside door jamb on our 3-season porch. The door has never fit perfectly and you could see daylight through the jamb. The expanding foam tape worked as designed and filled the gap. Then I used window sealing tape over that to seal around the entire jamb. The difference in warmth on the porch is astounding. We have an oil circulating radiator out there that used to be effective down to 30F outside temp or so. Anything lower than that and it was just too cold to keep the inside porch door open. This year, since I sealed the door, we've kept it open when it's been in the low 20's outside. The heater keeps the porch at a comfy 65F or so. I'm kicking myself for not having done this years ago.
