Want to feel better about the multi step process to temporarily deactivate stop/start function in the 2023 & 2024 X1’s?

I just ran into an old freind I’ve not seen for months who has a 2023 7 series with ID8.5. Beautiful vehicle with so many bells & whistles. He mentioned he has been unable to locate a method to at least temporarily DEACTIVATE the function. I looked on his ID8.5 & sure enough there was a space on the top right on the screen where the ID9 enables to deactivate. The function on his $100k + vehicle can’t DEACTIVATE under any circumstance. CRAZY

While I’d expect the function works way better on his vehicle than it does on the X1, why would BMW do such a thing on such a premium vehicle?

They have done exactly the same thing on our 40i LCI X5. No way to turn off the start stop at all. But having said that the mild hybrid assistance makes the start stop work way way better than in the X1 without hybrid assistance. It is very close to seamless. I agree with the comment that the X1 start stop was probably designed to work with hybrid assistance and they couldn't be bothered to make it work properly with a non-hybrid car. It is quite dangerous in my opinion.

Hey guys-
I have the X2's cousin a 2025 JCW Countryman, I contacted Bimmercode about when they will have access to this platform, like ID 8.5 the Mini system is built on 8.5 and called 9.0. They cannot break it yet and told me they dont have high hopes.
However I signed up for a OBD dongle who's only purpose is to deactivate Start/Stop, should be out soon.
Should work for you guys as well.

Details on that dongle? I saw in a FB group that there was a way to disable to safety warning that pops up each time on USA models but don't know if that's a valid claim.

I’ve mostly been using the Personal Mode & Deactivate the Auto stop/start function each time I start. I recall when I was tinkering with modes awhile ago, when in Sport Mode it Deactivated the Auto Stop/Start mode & there was no need to deactivate it as an additional step.

However while on a longer than usual trip this week I set it to Sport mode which I adjusted to:
Comfort - Drive Train
Sport - Driving Dynamics
Sport - Steering

But I quickly realized dispite the SPORT setting the engine kept stopping when approaching a stop. 🤬 I needed to DEACTIVATE as another step.

Am I going crazy or has BMW made a change recently that NOW requires drivers to ALWAYS turn off / Deactivate the function??

if so BMW is not listening to it’s customer at all.

As far as I know since early May 2024, I’m running the 3/2024.40 update, however I believe there may have been 1 or more “tweaks” made by OTA updates. Such as the SiriusXM radio Logo change & new map, Version from 2024-07-11.
Interesting. In my 23 X1, the auto stop/start is definitely deactivated when in Sport Mode. Same was true in my 14 328--but I know that later 3-Series loaners that I had still had auto stop/start active in Sport Mode.

I now believe that because I altered the Sport setting “Drive Train” from Sport to Comfort, the ID9 system requires a separate step to “Deactivate” Auto Stop/Start function just like if it was in Personal/Comfort Mode. If I had left the “Drive Train” as SPORT it would have automatically Deactivate the Auto Stop/Start function.

Is there any way to make the vehicle remember the last "mode" it was in? On my old F48 (can't remember if I coded it back in 2019) it just stayed in whatever mode I put it in. The new X2 I have seems to always go back to normal, and I need to faff to switch it back over.

Nope. Defaults always to personal mode & does not save to other modes. At least not yet. Perhaps a future update might make it possible, but I doubt it.

Not in the U11 you can't. You CAN set Expressive or Digital Art to be the default mode, but those don't do anything for driving dynamics; they just change the IP look.

Thanks for the reply to my earlier question folks - sorry I completely forgot to come back and say thanks, didn’t do any driving recently and forgot all about it.

I’m sure you’ve all seen already but the latest version (11.2024/30) of the software has a shortcut built in if you pull down from the top of the screen - but as you say this resets every time.

I made an additional shortcut for sports mode which also disables auto stop start. Bit annoying but I’m sure someone will find a way in due course.

I guess the cars have official environmental figures (here in the uk our vehicle tax is based on that), and turning off the engine when stationary is a part of that. If they allowed you to turn it off permanently then as well as paying more in fuel costs, and polluting the atmosphere more, you might also have ended up paying higher vehicle taxes.

Terrible lag. But I’m told it’s more of the dual clutch also pausing before the shift.

So we really can’t blame stop start for that transmission. And I’ve been told there is no way to put in an 8 speed zf in there because of Architecture

Close. The prior generation of the Mini Countryman was based on the F48 X1.

Because the engine is mounted transversely, the only transmission that will fit is the DCT.

It didn’t it had an 8 speed Asin, ZF never fitted to an X1.

Many dual clutch or DCT rack a bit to get them moving it’s part of the mushing of the clutches as it’s effectively a manual not a slushy auto. US cars also don’t have the faster Mikdmhybrid starter as emmisons are a lower factor so they are even worse than EU models and most other markets.
