Yeah... I have a bike too!
I own a 1996 Honda VFR750 that I ride about 7 mos. out of the year on really nice weathered days, which averages about 1 or 2 times each week... and I drive on super highways to and from work... so about 50 miles each time I take it out of the garage. I did just take a 6-hour trek 1/2 way across the state to attend a funeral service. That was quite a ride. I think I will always have a bike in addition to a car or two. It is just too much fun to not have it.

Anyways, the funny thing is my dad doesn't care in the slightest and is sortof quietly encouraging me. My mom on the other hand is not having any of it. My plan is just to wait it out since they are letting me live at home while I do my undergrad and I don't want to rock the boat. I am planning on going to Law School in a year (maybe 2 if I do the victory lap) and at that time will be moving either accross country or accross province, and will just get one then anyways. Besides, have you seen the insurance rates for an under 25 male on a sportbike? I was quoted roughly $9,000/year on anything over 500cc and about $3,000/year on anything under. I'm only 4 years shy of turning 25 at which point those rates drop to almost negligible levels, and I'll put up with a year or so max at $3,000 for my learning bike.

But yeah Ducati, I actually went and checked out the 848 a month or so ago, and I don't know that I could buy that when the 1098 is not much more, then the 1098s is not much more then that.. and the Desm,,,, oh wait thats way more.

If you are looking at R1's or R6's its one thing, but something like a Triumph Bonneville or even a sportier naked like a Monster, street triple, or SV650 should be considerably less to insure. I highly recommend looking into Ball Insurance - which is a progressive DRIVE agent. They are very competitive - and were about $800 cheaper than AIS for me! http://ballins.com/ |
