My Dad ruined serial TV for me forever with one of those episodes. Kirk was, as usual, in a precarious situation, and I was fretting over whether Kirk would survive the situation. My Dad asked me if I thought Star Trek would be on the next week and I said yes, then he asked me if I thought Kirk would be the captain. I said I hope so and he said, well then, do you think he'll get killed this week?

Was the same with Batman. The bad guys would always devise some devilishly slow way for Batman and Robin to die, but left plenty of time for them to work their way out of the predicament.

You know you’re old when you find out recently that you have stage 3-4 fibrosis of the liver. Not sure why. Have had pancreatitis in the past. Triglycerides are high. Don’t drink that much; a few glasses on Friday nights, which I’m stopping as of tonight. Will see my doc at the end of the month and know more after that. It was through a blood test that I'm not sure is 100% accurate. A liver biopsy may be in my future.

I'm sorry to hear that. Here's hoping that the blood test was inaccurate. A very quick Google search says you probably still have 13 to 25 years left though so we'll have you around for some time yet. Keep us informed.

From my experiences, lab results can vary between labs.

About 3 years ago my usual lab indicated i had stage 3 chronic kidney disease.
You can bet this got my full attention. I went to the VA and they sent me to a
different lab. Results? Normal. I discussed this disparity with my primary
care doctor and he said yes, this happens.

Then a year ago my lab report indicated blood sugar close to the top of the
normal zone. Also, my liver enzymes had topped out just above the normal
zone. I realized I had to make some adjustments. One, I stopped all
alcohol. Two, I curbed my evening bowl of ice cream and any other sweets.

That was a year ago this month. My next lab draw is next month, which I
am looking forward to. Meanwhile, I lost 19 lbs. plus my BP went down at
least 10 points each number, now a pretty decent 106/65. In addition, I can
now wear my old (but not worn out) 32/32 Levis from a decade ago. I
feel MUCH better.

Yes, I'm hoping for this. As I said, will see my doc at the end of the month and we'll definitely discuss these results and most assuredly do more testing. Will report back here when new tests have been taken.

In the meantime no more alcohol for me. At my age it's not good for me anymore, anyway (was never good for me). Have fallen down a few times recently while under the influence and don't want to break a hip, or worse.

****Fibrosis of the liver and pancreatitis are sometimes/very often related to lifestyle factors.

There are genetic pre-dispositions to them as well but often they are commonly seen in overweight/obese people (BMI, or Body Mass Index over 30, bodyfat over 25% for men measured with DEXA or Impedance, etc.. ), excessive alcohol consumption, over eating consistently to the point the liver develops fatty deposits (NASH - non-alcoholic steatohepatitis) over time, etc..

There are also some medications that can exacerbate the problem in addition to other factors metabolically (high triglycerides, high cholesterol, blood sugar issues, etc..), or physical issues like bile duct obstructions, heart disease, etc.. It's a complicated issue but needs to be taken seriously as it is potentially fatal even though the person feels relatively fine, until they do not.

A good liver workup and biopsy will confirm the diagnosis and a specialist will make the determination as to cause, prognosis, and optimal treatment that will perhaps require significant lifestyle changes (losing weight, exercising vigorously and in a developmentally appropriate manner, greatly limiting or eliminating alcohol, taking medications, etc..)

The good news is for mild to even somewhat moderate (Batts-Ludwig scale, or Metavir Scale) liver fibrosis - it is very treatable and can be partly to largely reversed with proper treatment and aggressive lifestyle factor changes that your health care provider(s) will inform you of.

Hopefully, things work out well and the condition is treatable and reversible for you.
