That's going to rub some die hards the wrong way.

While we're on G87, anything else you can tell us?

Yeah that's why I'm asking. The official 2 series thread says "Market Launch November 2021" so I was conflicted.
I handle the inventory at my BMW store and we've heard nothing about production for the G42. My guess is the November release date is correct.
SOP stands for "Start of production". Market launch is a different thing.
And in most cases I don't make the distinction between different SOPs of Euro and US models, unless they're more than a couple of months apart.
Correct, however the G42 has not begun production yet and I assume won't for at least another month or two.
Please correct me if I'm wrong. Unless European production is starting...
FWIW see here ("G42: Press Says September 2nd SOP").

I've been thinking about the readers of this thread, and I realized that they fall into two categories: those who check its updates (either subscribed or when it shows up on the front page) and those who visit it to learn about specific model plans. With that in mind, I've reworked the top post into two parts: first, it's all the info known about specific models, and after that the random updates from the last two months in the order they were posted. I hope this layout will make the post easier to read.

I haven't posted about it because there's nothing to post about. There's nothing major happening to it up to the moment it dies. A very mild (not a real LCI) refresh will happen in 11/22, a few things will become standard, the wheel choices will change slightly, and that's it.

I really liked the nice SOP overview, so maybe reconsider bringing that back in addition to the (really nice) model specific part.

New format looks great and thanks for sharing regular updates.

Any specific reason why G80 EOP is almost a year before G82.

Next Generation of 3er. The current Sedan ends production as does the G80.

Same reason as for LCI differences. See for example here (from this dedicated thread):

G23 4er - 10/27
Interesting.

G20 3er started production mid-October 2018. So no surprise that the 7th generation 3er gets an update (Life Cycle Impulse) mid 2022.

G80 M3: production started in November 2020 and first deliveries are scheduled to start in March 2021. So it seems that the launch version will already be replaced by an update mid 2022 (LCI start of production in July 2022).

But then again, the same happened with the F87 M2: deliveries started from April 16, 2016 onwards, LCI happened in 2017 (because of the F22 2er LCI) and production ended at the start of Summer 2018 (replaced by the M2 Competition from September 2018 onwards - moving from N55 engine to S55 engine because of tightened EU emissions regulations).

G82 M4: the launch version is expected to stay around longer, with an update early 2024 (LCI start of production in March 2024).

It's great, thanks ynguldyn!

I noticed the X5 separate competition models (vs comp package) have disappeared ... are those X5 comp models now dead?

I can't remember what data I based my old statement on, but while rewriting the top post I rechecked everything, and I now doubt that will actually happen - so, removed during the edit.

I'm amazed you actually noticed it.

Thank you. Am truly grateful for you sharing your knowledge.

Was wondering if you see any LCI timetables being moved forward or backward given the chip shortages and knock on effects to production/deliveries?

As the 8 series are receiving their light updates in 3/22, will they receive the new engines like S68 that X5/6s are getting with their LCI?

No. New engines are not "light updates", I would've highlighted them.
