Spartanburg not only builds the X5M and X6M for two generations.
But also the two models of BMW Z3M and Z4M each. In the future add on the BMW X3M and BMW X4M and most likely the X7M60i/Li.

This is a shame...I would NEVER purchase a BMW product built in Mexico. Period.
I doubt that I'm the minority in that sentiment.

How am I wrong? M Cars have been assembled in Italy, South Africa, and the US in addition to Germany. Both generations of the M Coupe and M Roadster were assembled in the US. Even for those who aren't familiar with BMW Motorsport or M GmbH history and think the M1 was the "first", it was engineered by Lamborghini who built the first prototypes and then went belly up. The remainder were manufactured by a collaboration from Marchese, TIR, and ItalDesign in Italy.

It would just feel wrong taking anything you say about this as more than moronic drivel. Also, you do not understand what middle income means. It's an understanding only slightly ahead of Bubba and Gump. Do they live down the street? Please say hi.

Sidenote, I would be keeping the 135is (love that car) and I will still keep to my original statement of not buying any premium car not produced from its original home nation. |

Don't forget that The facility in Brazil assemble the 3er and shortly the BMW X1, MINI Countryman and the next X3 as well as some FWD compact models.
Why so much focus on the X3? With assembly also to take place in South Africa,Brazil,China as well as the USA? It is the hottest segment as they say with further growth expected. The renewal of the X3 falls within that projection. You only have to look at how the X3 is doing globally and in the US in particular. And the next generation will be even better as it expands to incorporate PHEV options as well as a full BMW M model. The Chinese market will also get the X3Li. And of course there will be a new X4 sister model.

M Performance vehicles substitute models that would be considered not only taboo in some circles but also provide substitute vehicle choice without tax penalties. Which is why 550d and X5 and X6 M50d thrive in these countries.
The M760Li is a substitute for an M7. But it is still a very powerful car. The new X3M and X4M will be full BMW M Vehicles as are the X5M and X6M.

The next gen 3 series comes out and blows everything in the segment out of the water. Reviews widely claim it is the best in the segment. You test drive it and you agree. But......it's made in Mexico.......so you'd go with an inferior competitor? All things being equal if the deciding factor for you is country of assembly, more power to you (not a factor for me). But you'd get an inferior car because of that? Wouldn't that be a bit irrational?
