It is not morning but here is some wood anyway.

This is one of my MacGregor 945W drivers. I have a handful of classic MacGregor woods as well as a made for tour player Wood Brothers Texan and a few Cleveland Classic drivers (one that was my gamer back in 1990-1992).

What are your thoughts on the new golf ball rules? I think it would help more skilled golfers to get more success. Do you guys agree?

I think it is a stupid idea. First, for the men's tour people LIKE watching them hit bombs. Tough if some of the older courses are no longer long enough to host a pro men's tournament. When I start seeing the leaderboard with everyone 20 under on Sunday then let's talk.

As for the ladies tour and us amateurs why do we want less distance? Hell I'm getting on in age and have no desire to lose more distance.

I agree in the distance roll back. I am losing distance because of age so I realize I cannot play from the tips on most courses. That’s ok because that’s golf. It doesn’t bother me whether I hit a 9 iron, 8 iron or even a 7 iron from 145 yards. 30 years ago I was hitting a PW with a Titleist Balata ball 145 yards. Distance is merely a number and I will hit the club needed to get the ball to go where I intend. To me the quest for distance is mere ego. My ego gets stoked when I post a lower score than those I compete with. I can always move to a tee box more suited for my distance limitations. Since I no longer play in tournaments where I tee it up makes no difference to me since my ego isn’t distance based.

With regard to the skilled golfer benefitting, they’re benefiting like crazy now. Incredible distances gained with the ball today has wrecked the ability for true shot making. The low spin balls have harmed the skill of maneuvering the ball. I would prefer setting a higher spin rating for balls so those with the ability to hit for prodigious distances don’t have the ability to render a golf course and its design useless. Pros hitting a 7 iron 225 yards have done more harm to golf because the ball has made it possible to blast past design elements meant for shot making. When playing against my playing partners I take great pleasure when I have to hit from the fairway first (because I hit for shorter distances) and hit it stiff just to watch the other golfers choke from shorter distances. While this isn’t always the case it happens and to to me that’s competitive golf. I love to get up and down and walk away with par when the young distance bombers choke and gag it in for a bogey or double. I LOVE the mental side of the game as much as the physical. I don’t employ gamesmanship tactics and let my ability to golf my ball affect those who I play with. Of course I often gag it myself so I have to have a very good short game. Rolling back the golf ball distance doesn’t really affect shots from 60 yards in. So that’s fine with me.

Played 9 holes this past Saturday! Was supposed to be 18 but the rest of the 4 some were being a little difficult.

Thought I drove the ball great with my driver and my fairway irons were decent. My chipping game is what I need to work on the most.

I sure did miss playing over the winter time. Felt good to be back out there.

Will play again in my companies golf league every Wednesday starting late April. Can't wait for that!

Best round in a long time today, 81 with 29 putts. Could have been better except for the double bogey on #6 and the triple bogey on #7…

When I played 9 holes this past Saturday, I thought I shot pretty well for not being out there since last October.

I purchased abunch of Bombtech golf wedges and a new putter. I couldn't be happier with all of them. 52, 56, 60 and a 72 degree set. The ball feels good when making contact and club is very forgiving. I just need to work on my chipping.

The ball pretty much does! Haha! It's pretty trippy if you ask me. The angle of the club is so steep.

I have been using it if the green is on a hill and I am on the side of the hill. Nice little lob onto the green close to the pin. Definitely something gotta get use to. But have been hitting it a little more consistent when I am out playing.

Stumbled onto this thread. Been playing hockey since a little kid. Goalie. Covid shut all rinks down. Got into golf. its a natural progression for most hockey players anyway. Started about 4+ years ago but got serious about 3 years ago. Watched a million youtube videos during the lockdown and got me even more into the game. Been taking lessons and practicing over the winter on simulators and with a pro giving instruction. Started at 25hci and now down to an 11 index. I play from tips as I can play the distance. My clubs course has a slope rating of 136 so it is a bit challenging.

Current WITB
Cobra Radspeed driver 9 degree - All peacoat color - May change this year.
Cobra Radspeed 5, and 7 wood (de-lofted) in place of hybrid gives more confidence and no hooking.
Ping i525 irons 4i-PW
Vokey SM8 wedges 50,54,58
Bettinardi Inovai 6.0 putter
Pro V ball - Upgraded this year from the Kirkland

Very true. However when I started playing, it was at the same course and I didn't know any better. It was rated actually rated at 133 from the blue tees at the time which I didn't realize that it was a lot lower than it should have been. So when I started playing at some other courses, my hc traveled well. Now that its up where it should be, I get much less strokes.

Now that it was bumped to 136 from the blue tees, the black tees (which I now play from) are actually a 140 slope and it is only 6700 yards.

Had a fantastic golf week last week.

Played Cinnabar, Pasatiempo, Half Moon Bay, and Harding Park.

At Harding, I had a hole-out eagle from 120y out with a 52°.

Averaged an 84 across all 4 rounds, +/- a couple. But my putts ranged from 30-39.

I just can't seem to get everything working together on the same days.

Great set of golf courses. I especially love Pasatiempo. And all I can say about that hole out is congrats. And you are longer than I. 120y is a PW for me. 52 degree doesn't get me there.

PS - putting should be outlawed. I HATE putting. I SUCK at putting. Oh and I am now developing a minor case of the yips. If any case can be minor only hits me 1-2 times a round.

I’ve been going to the SJ Municipal and Pruneridge driving range. Haven’t played a game yet. Working on my swing as I’m a complete noob. I need to look into lessons.

I played SJ muni a lot when I lived in Santa Clara. Kind of learned the game there.
