something I've been working on. Still need to get the exposure time right so the background blurs more but its hard cuz the road over there is kinda bumpy. I'm gonna try again when it's not raining.

Tried that but the lighting is actually the best on this specific stretch because there are new bright WHITE lights on both sides of the street and a set of 2 on the median for each post.

1/1000-second and higher shutter speed, IS (image stabilization) and a super sharp lens. (The IQ is simply incredible on that lens, but, given the huge price, expected). I used to shoot almost everything with the 500mm on the tripod, but lately I've taken to hand holding around 90%. For BIF (birds in flight) my keeper ratio is much higher when I hand-hold. I've had some success shooting as low as 1/500th second, but whenever possible I want to get up above 1/1000th. Another factor is the pixel-pitch of the Canon 7D allows a fairly huge crop while still maintaining sharpness. This is around an 80% crop, but at ISO 400 it's loaded with details even after the crop. The 7D works really well up to around ISO 800 and then starts hitting some pretty hard limits. There's a tradeoff between image detail and high-ISO/low-noise performance, where the 7D excells. I own the excellent 5D MkII also, but I grab the 7D when I know that cropping will be involved, as in most wildlife shots. Dave
