I have no idea who you think I am.

Speaking of who we are, are you sure you're not SickFinga? He used the same exact word, "tacky", when I mentioned the glowing kidneys.

OK, call me dense, but I am not clear on this sentence:

Quote:
Both G05 X5 and G07 X7 xDrive50i will replace their launch version of N63 (456hp) with the same new 530hp engine and become X5/X7 M50i. Here's finally your explanation why they were sticking with "xDrive50i": "M50i" was reserved for the more powerful engine.
Will the G05 X5 50i have the 530 hp engine or will that engine require ordering an X5 "M50i"?

Probably same as the F90 - 600hp for the base model, 617hp for the Competition model. Yes, since the F97/F98 will have a Competition model, almost surely, so too will the F95/F96.

With the G20 M340 receiving a significant HP bump, M division will have to bump the G80 closer to 500hp.
According to a past update in the first post, 475hp is the target for the S58 in its base tune. We can guess the Competition tune will have about 490hp.

Sound like an Audi guy. RWD is driving perfection when you know how to drive it.

I strongly recommend track lessons for any driver. ///M Performance Driving School is money well spent for any level.

The deal is, the X5 will debut for MY2019, with the highest trim model being the 50i powered by the 465hp version of the N63. Then, for MY2020, the M50i arrives with the new 530hp version of the N63 while the 50i will be discontinued.

I'm definitely a BMW guy but for day to day driving I just prefer the piece of mind that comes with AWD. I will definitely do track lessons one day but until then I'm not very confident hooning around when it's wet out.

With AWD I can still corner like a jack*ss when it's wet and not fear for the unknown.

It sounds like it will supplant it after a year, so no.

Thanks for the clarification - this really complicates my decision making vis a vis:

Current X5 M (big depreciation hit)

2019 G05 X5 - same N63 tu engine

2020 model - long wait

That may be true to the masses, most will buy anything cause of the badge but for enthusiasts we shall see how the next M3, M8, and other M cars are in a few years.

Ha ha! Corner like a jackass - I hear you. Guess I'm still a purist at heart, (ironic since I've gone electric), but RWD in the wet isn't bad in a modern BMW. The nannies are very good and it comes somewhat down to tire quality. MPSS or the newer version or an equivalent tire are a must in a proper performance sedan.

From here, performance driver training truly will change the way you approach driving in most conditions. Porsche has a winter driving school that is great also. Winter tires are a must up North, but I'm in the Deep South, so it's summer rubber full time for me. Wife has No-Seasons on the X5.

Great stuff, thanks!
Regarding the
2019 i3
- 120

Is it due for order from July, not the range extender, but the EV version?
Thanks in advance.

Yeah my feelings are definitely more due to my lack of driving skill than an indictment against RWD.

But really, in places that get snow storms physics takes over. RWD would not work as a daily driver. Much to the chagrin of 95% of Bimmerpost members, I'd be thrilled if the next gen M3/4 has the switchable AWD system.

We've had Z discussion before. If it's lit up all the time at night like that MB Accessory Illuminated Star instead of just to provide specific functional/safety/convenience visual cues, tacky is putting it mildly.

I guess there were enough X6 surveys that said "I wish something else on the front of the car lit up besides the headlights but not the badge like Mercedes because that'd be copying so what else is there I guess the grilles can light up that'd be cool because I need people to know I'm driving a X6 not a plebeian X5"

I'm a huge fan of bmw. I'm the only car person in the family, non of then had bmw but me until last few years they're getting bmws , that tells you something no? not surprised bmw get more sells, in my area 3 series and x1/x3 is outnumbering Camry I would feel more exclusive driving a new Camry now then 3, again not exciting at all bmw is slowly Turning into audi which I have never consider one. I dislike FWD but bmw had me consider getting fk8 civic type r because it's awesome 6speed and much better steering.

I remembered in a past update, you mentioned something about the G30:

Quote:
  • Under the same assumption, 540i, M550i, and US 530i will be re-engined in 07/19.
So maybe it could be as soon next July? That would mean that everything - 5, 7, 8, X5, X6, X7 - would have the new N63 TU3 by mid next year. Then the only unknowns left for that engine would be a possible G32 M650i model at some point, and the rumored X8 which, if it is coming (I'd give it a 99% ), is probably at least 3 or 4 years out (might even be an "H" generation product).
