Really terrible news. Not concerned about the reduction in miles or time, just the brakes, wipers and clutch. All things I would blow through very quickly and loved having it all done for free.
I think this will start to ruin the brand as people will start to skip scheduled maintenance as I have seen a lot with other brands that don't include it. I've never been in the used market but I think knowing that maintenance is included for the previous owner means that they were more likely to have take it, making the used car more attractive of an offer.

The whole point of warranty is to cover your ass when a product malfunction happens. It costed 6k to do full replacement by BMW. I'm glad they took the tab. How would u feel if they would bring you the bill to take your baby home which is 3 months old only. |

Also will they loose customers .... Probably but they will make more money doing this.
I find it funny how companies even the one I work for talk about customer loyalty yet these same companies show no loyalty to the customer. The company will always do what's best for itself even if it means alienating its customers. |

No difference here. Could never get those under maintenance here in Canada or even know if it was even possible to. I was always under the impression that wear/tear items would never be covered - why would they? If you abuse your car, why should BMW cover the cost? Of those items not covered, none ever needed to be replaced within the first 4 years for any of the BMWs or Mercedes that my family has owned and neither has any relative.
If you're a casual driver, this shouldn't really have any effect. The people annoyed or angry are those who probably track or drive their car hard. Not judging but I simply think it's an overreaction. At the end of the day, it's still better than Mercedes which requires you to buy a maintenance package. |

One more question: How long can I expect the clutch in my F8x to last?

Bmw pushing me away too, I always have had Bmws since my 20s because they are making great cars, but they have to understand that everyone is making great cars these days! In the last 3 years I convinced 3 of my colleagues to buy Bmws over the mercs or Audi because of its superior service and maintenance.
Bmw is going to loose many loyal customers for its "cheap" decisions! |

I wonder how much of this has to do with BMW's ever-expanding lineup and the amount of associated overhead.
I keep reading about great sales increases year-over-year, but by looking at the number of new models that seems to be infinitely growing, I would guess that a large amount of 'profit' is actually reinvested in R&D and equipping factories for new model production. I know BMW is chasing what appears to be literally every possible car buyer on the planet, but developing those cars and continuing to refresh them every few years is tremendous overhead. If I was running that business and prioritized R&D costs and had to maintain that much overhead I would absolutely look to places that were losing money...and it appears the maintenance program meets that requirement. I still love their cars, and will stick with my current plan to buy a 1-year-old used BMW (and there are tons of them)...that way I get the best (for me) combination of price and value out of the warranty and service plan. It means I incur more due diligence to have the car inspected, but it's worth it. |

When I shop brands, like Audi, they always say the MSRP is lower than BMW because they don't pad the price with the maintenance.
So this year they raise MSRP and decrease benefits?? So...Is the M2 gonna be a 2016 or a 2017 when it hits?? |

The maintenance plan was icing on the cake. I fear this is a way for BMW to stat weening everyone off the maintenance plan. The next step, cut it completely.

There were two bulls, one old and one young, standing on a hill looking down at a herd of gorgeous cows.
The young bull said to the old bull, "Let's RUN down there and have us ONE of those cows." The old bull said, "Why don't we WALK down there and have them ALL?" Pay attention younger folks. Moving forward along those lines, if you are going to beat the crap out of your clutch and brakes, why in the hell should BMW pay for your abuse? If wiper blades are NOT a big deal, and they are not, then why does BMW want to eliminate them from the maintenance program - it's more of a "feel good" benefit for the customer than anything else. When I took ours in for service, unbeknownst to me they changed the blades. When I noticed that I asked, "Why in the hell did you do that? It wasn't necessary." "Because we were supposed to based on age." As far as brakes are concerned, we are at around 1,300 feet above sea level and every trip we make involves a long downhill trek. Guess what? We can actual take advantage of engine braking and extend brake like. Likewise, neither of us has a compelling reason to hold off on braking until the last minute or tailgate people knowing there's a fair chance we need to engaging in more robust braking. Why BMW included brakes, clutches (for all 25 people that own a manual) or wiper blades in the first place is beyond me. Now, being somewhat paranoid, it isn't going to surprise me if BMW subsequently decides (in a couple of years?) that, in order to synchronize all facets of the "BMW Experience," "We will, going forward, align our warrantee with our free maintenance program. As such, our warrantee will now cover THREE years." |
