I'll be the contrarian and say take the M3 to college and have fun. This is a BMW forum and people are still making snide comments about taking advantage of generous wealthy parents? Be honest, if anyone had the same offer from their parents they'd take them up on the M3 college experience.

Billup, no no! Remember the rich Arabs? They actually remove the slightly blue tinted factory OEM windows from their Mercs and replace them with CLEAR class so everyone can see them. I bet that's what those chaps had in mind also.

Ah my bad man. Wasn't in a joking mood last night.

My university has consistently been ranked in the top 10 party schools and top 25 academic schools in the country over the past 10 years or so. I was fortunate. Worked hard and played hard.

It was a very small liberal arts school. You could walk anywhere in 15 minutes or less.

as a senior in high school, my dad "gave me" a 13 year old Ford Bronco 4x4 with a 351 Windsor engine in it with some 17" American Racing wheels and 33" Mud Kings.....

it had "aftermarket" fog lights from Autozone, but one of the brackets was loose, so the fog light would point downward on occasions...

the 4-barrel Holley carburetor was so jacked up, that my dad had to put a stick in the flap to keep it from closing on me.....

there was so much play in the steering wheel that I NEVER ONCE was able to hold the steering wheel steady while driving ANYWHERE - even while backing up out of the driveway...surprised I lived driving that thing to the beach.....

I once got it stuck in a mud pit - I left the windows rolled down while I was in there and i'll never forget the amounts of splattered mud inside of my truck.....

I boned 3 different chicks in that truck....

then I drove it from Houston Texas to Oceanside California in two days to get to my first duty station in February 1999...freaking 1400 miles !!!!!!

the guy at the shop on base looked at my truck during an inspection so that I could get a base sticker - he almost died looking at my engine bay...

i'll always remember him saying "sir, you're missing components on this engine - I don't even know how it's running".....

he said that it was going to cost more than the truck was even worth in order for it to even get it to pass inspection...

so, after (2) temporary base passes that totaled 60 days, I was forced to trade it in in Carlsbad California for a black 1997 5-speed Cavalier on 17" Eagle Alloys HAHAHAHA !!!!! paid $305 a month for that car

I got every last bit of $1200 for that truck HAHAHA !!!!!

I had to walk to college, uphill, in snow, both ways, even on weekends. My professor made me stay late, she made me eat her out, and swore if I told anyone, she would frame me.

I worked for pennies and my lover was a prostitute. She'd occasionally give me a ride in her Ford Taurus (talk about luxury at its finest), but that was sparingly. Sometimes I wish I had a car like an M3 in college, but then I think about all the fun I would have missed out on.

A couple years ago, one of his sons said he had to drive a Taurus while he was in school.

It makes a person wonder, is there actually an advantage to spoiling kids as far as how they turn out? Sometimes I think it's a cultural thing. Some cultures are insecure I guess in their social stature, so they feel the need to show everybody how much cash they have. Others seem confident and show their kids a "tough love" if you will. Who is to say what's better? There's certainly a LOT of boasting on this forum, but I highly doubt those folks who boast are super rich. Rich, yes, but not in the category where you have Mitt Romney over for dinner.

Makes me wonder, (using more of this example) why wouldn't Mitt Romney come over for dinner with middle class citizens? If a family's socioeconomic status is the ONLY underlying variable of a friend of Mitt's, should it matter?

I think it's OK to spoil your kids if they deserve it. What if you know they would appreciate an old Volvo vs. a new 3/4 Dodge? If I knew my son would be happy with either, that would mean the world to me.

I think spoiling your kids should be a reward for actions or behavior which happened in the past. It should not be used to expect certain (good) behavior in the future.
