Back/Tri this morning. Had a pretty solid lift. Really like those MAG attachments for back, I've mentioned that before. Lets me hit parts of my back that I never really get. Followed my workout with a 5k run. Leaning out a little as the week progresses even though I've been eating a solid bit. Same shit different week. Going to try to stay on somewhat of a diet over the weekend since it looks like I will be working full days. Usually I tend to let the diet slip over the weekend and the early part of the week is spent getting back on track. Hoping to kick that habit a little, although I haven't officially started my cut yet.

If you're at a point where you are happy....I wouldn't sweat it. You don't carry a lot of body fat anyway, and if you can enjoy your weekends and still look good....that's a win in my book. I'm only OCD with what I do because while I have decent bodybuilding genetics, I also have other things to worry about such as what my dad is going through. History of diabetes and heart disease is why I choose to be as strict as I am.

Hate it when I oversleep and have to rush through the gym to get to work. Still had a good workout, but had to cut it short. Lifted shoulders and biceps. Opted for super sets with very short breaks in between. Shoulders and biceps were gassed at the end. Finished up with a 3mile run. Struggled through the first mile had some crazy calf tightness, but finally loosened up. Following 2 miles were a breeze, wanted to keep going but had to get to work haha.

I may be done for a while. Having some major issue with left supraspinitus (sp?). PAINFUL to try to pull open a door. Last night was supposed to be back/tri but turned into chest/bi. Went and saw my PT brother and he said get some Dixie cups and ice that shit. Impinging. Hopefully we can meet up later before I leave on road trip and he will tape me up. This may put an end to driving a Porsche on Vegas inside track

Leg day this morning. At the end of my workout I hit the machine linked below for some interval sprints. I was absolutely gassed afterwords. My gym just picked this bad boi up, plan to use it a lot in the future. It's brutal, but in a good way!

Went back to the gym at 4am this morning for the first time since October, was depressing. Did ab's and 45min on the treadmill. Was a bit frustrating figuring out what to do for ab's compared to my usual routine before surgery.
Saw a few buddies and all asked how I was recovering since my surgery. I had to fight the urge to get a proper chest/arms session in so I was out the door and on my way home by 5:15am. Sulked the whole drive home lol. I have an enormous uphill battle ahead of me and not quite sure I'll make it but I've been down and out before I'll try my hardest to figure out a revised training protocol and move forward.

Just go easy and listen to your body. Don't let it get you down, use it as fuel to stay motivated. You still have muscle memory going for you, and you just have to find other means of stressing the muscle to elicit that response that doesn't injure or compromise your surgery. There are so many different ways and angles to work the muscle....you just have to get creative. An example is chest. Most everyone will tell you that benching is a must. And while that can be true to a point as it allows you to use heavy weight and create more stress, the pectoral muscle isn't only intended to push things away from you, but also its primary function is to pull your arm across your chest....a "flye". You know all of this already...you just have to create a gameplan now finding exercises you can do, and after recovery start progressing on those exercises you will be able to include. I know it has to suck, but look at it as a challenge. It's not going to beat you!

Rmtt I agree,it's frustrating simply because there are so many simple, basic movements I can not utilize due to my back/neck fusions.
Now throw the shoulder joint in the equation, that's not really held in place by anything since the rotator cuff is non-existent;which limits my exercise choices even more since most upper body movements include&require some sort of shoulder movement/stabilization. My greatest fear is my shoulder dislocating mid-rep during a movement. I lost confidence in my shoulder joint as well as the highly recommended Orthopedist who did the surgery. I think I'm going to work around it best I can for now and when we move to the Research Triangle N.C. area this summer, hook up with an Ortho at Duke University Health. But thank you for the words of encouragement brother it is very much appreciated. BTW,how far are you from Hilton Head? We have a beach home there, maybe we will train someday in the future

I'm in upstate SC near the NC border, near Landrum/Tryon. I can understand the fear, I would be hesitant myself. Maybe once you're cleared by your doctor's and know what you can/cannot do.....you will be able to train in a way that won't harm you. We have a guy in our gym who has had both shoulders replaced. He still does really good and he is almost 65. I always tell him that one of the greatest classic physique's was supposedly built with light weight and high reps...just getting as much blood into the area as possible. That guy was Serge Nubret.

Yes,Serge was one of the best for sure. If you don't mind, next time you see that gentleman at the gym ask him if he had a conventional replacement or a reverse-replacement.
Friend of mine who is 60 had a conventional replacement(rotator cuff still intact) and although there are certain movements he can no longer do he looks amazing and held most of his mass

Lifting chest yesterday, fairly sore this morning. Had the intention of taking it easy on the cardio since my calves have been sore as shit yesterday. Ended up running 5 miles after my workout so that didnt happen lol.
Arms this morning. Had a mean pump, most likely due to the abundance of cookies that I ate yesterday. Stairs to finish out the workout, legs were killing me. And I have to lift legs tomorrow so that'll be miserable! |

Went to the gym Saturday , and also went and tried a Yoga class for the first time ever. I did not think it would be that tough lol but I made it through, and will be going to my second class tonight and lifting afterwards! Feeling good, nice to see my body making some positive changes.

I have done it a few times, but have been doing Tai chi for years as a means of stretching and relaxation. It's amazing how two cultures came up with different approaches leading to the same thing.....aligning the body and the breath to optimize health.

Good back day trying to focus in on lower lat, kinda tough. Focus on keeping elbows really tucked and bringing hands to hips or behind on several moves
