Hey guys. Just took my car to service for the misfire. Kept my car in and gave me an x1 loaner. Any thoughts about it?

Wanted to see what others thought about it. I don't like the car. It seems to burns more gas than my little 1. But maybe cause the car is a bit heavier.

I think that I could definitely own the one with the n55 and m sport package if I really had to. They look pretty sharp and all the mods for the 335 bolt right up (or so I have heard). They also look really sharp lowered on 19s or 20s. So, with the right mods you can have a 350+ awhp sav that probably handles about the same as the 335. I have a fondness for wagons and this is as close as you can get to a performance wagon from BMW these days.

That being said, I have never actually driven one.

The X1 definitely has potential. It may not have a manual transmission option here in the US, but the rest is all gravy being based off the E90 3 series. I've had mine for 6 weeks now and love it! Dropped on H&R springs and has the Alpina B3 tcu flash for N55 6 speed autos. Since BMW decided not to bring the 1 series hatchback to the US, this is as close as it gets to one that is made for enthusiasts.

We traded our N54 135i on our N55 X1. There's no getting around both cars being heavy and the X1 being heavier. But it actually gets slightly better city mileage than our E82 did and only a small penalty on the highway. We'd have preferred an F20 M135i, but since they're not available here and the F31 is so large, the E84 works well for us.

in my experience of driving these as loaners, they are FAR better than the F30 3-series loaners i've had. For one, the X1 has heavy hydraulic steering just like the 1-series.....it's also sharing most/some underpinnings with the 1-series/E9X 3-series, which is why it doesn't flop around like a Camry (yes i'm looking at you F3X 3-series).

I generally find SUVs to be pretty horrible to drive, but the X1 may be the only SUV i haven't hated. Would i buy one? NO.....but do i mind driving one as a loaner? Not at all!

I had one for a day as a loaner. Like the steering but nothing else. The throttle/turbo lag was atrocious and totally spoiled the car for me. It was N20 equipped.

Thats interesting, I've had the N20 in X3 guise and have never experienced turbo lag in almost 3 years

For a daily driver the N20 in the x3 is nice match. I bet it's even peppier in the smaller, lighter x1?

I didn't mind the loaner X1 I had. I'm sure I would like the N55 one much better, though.

I had the 28i X1 loaner and it was perfect for a daily beater. Had no complaints.

Had one of the same several times as a loaner. Enjoyed the car thoroughly. Considered picking one up for my wife but we really don't need two cars right now.

We have three cars between two people, and we always end up taking the beater because it's outside (don't have to pull it in and out of the garage) and it's "easy" to drive around.

The X5 gets driven, but the 1-series just collects dust. Bit of a shame, really.

Exactly the situation I'm currently avoiding. Huge shame to let that 1er go lonely, no bias of course!

Nice car, but I don't get the point of it. If you want a car that handles well, get a sedan or hatch. If you want space, get an SUV. Where does the X1 fit? It handles not as well as a sedan and much less space than either an X3 or a 3 series. So who would buy this? The single guy with no friends who likes to go offroad by himself?

Got one for my wife this past winter, it was the best value out of all of the cars we were looking at. It has a lot of potential, we got the n20 xdrive and it's not slow by any means. It feels slow when I drive it coming from my tuned 335i but so would most cars. We leased so I'm leaving it all stock but with a tune and some coilovers + nice wheels. I think it'd be an awesome little car.

All but the sDrive retain HPS, they simply have variable assist as standard now. It's still hugely different from the EPS in the F3x, etc.

For our needs, we wanted a sedan or wagon with the N55. The F20 M135i would have probably been ideal for us, but of course we can't have that in the US. We didn't want a true SUV, so it was down to the F31 or the E84, and with the F31 not offering the N55 and feeling very large after a few test drives, it was an easy choice.

It fits our needs. It drives and feels enough like our previous E82 135i that the wife is happy and it offers tons more practicality while still being reasonably small, albeit fat and thirsty.

We're currently looking at one. It would be a slam dunk if we could get a stick, so honestly we will probably end up with an e91 328i.

Great car, a friend has one and even though our E84 is based on that E91 chassis, the E91 still has a lot more space behind the seats yet doesn't feel as big and ponderous as the F31. Plus rwd is nice.

I've debated trying to find one for myself, as I'd prefer a stick and rwd too. But that motor's just a bit of a dog and finding a manual with the sport package and low miles is pretty rare.

Actually, the X1 is a real BMW. I am currently trading in my 2013 X1 for a 2015 model. It'll be my 5th BMW. I've had a 330i, 328xi coupe, Z4, and 2013 X1. My 2015 is an Xdrive28i, sport line with the 18" sport wheels and sport seats, premium package, cold weather package, lighting package, Alpine White with Coral Red leather, gloss black with coral red matte interior accents.

I'm getting the previous gen E90 3 series platform, the same drivetrain that is offered in the 2 series, 3 series, 4 series, 5 series, Z4, X3 and X4. I get a vehicle that'll do 0-60 in 6.3 seconds and is small enough so that it'll still drive like a sports sedan when I drop it into sport mode and fling it through the twisties on the back roads and yet drive all day at 100mph on the highway. The vehicle actually reminds me, a lot, of my E46 330i. I can drive it easy in eco pro mode and get 35mpg as I did on a recent trip to Cape cod. I get a car that's big enough and has a hatch so that it'll swallow my bicycle with or without the front tire removed and a long roof with roof rails that'll carry my two kayaks with ease and without having to climb on to a ladder to remove. I get a few extra inches of ground clearance that, along with the xdrive, makes the car a beast in the snow. I drove through several snow storms and 6"-8" inches of snow without a problem last winter when I was snowmobiling up north.

And I got all that for $36,500 with my USAA rebate. Quite a bargain in my book.
