Performance exhaust installation DC area muffer shop recommendation
Live in the city so I don't have a garage space nor the tools to work on it. Can anyone on the forum recommend a shop to install the performance exhaust? Quoted 750 for the exhaust from SunMotors BMW. But local dealer is asking too much for installation($400).
Thanks! Last edited by longumd; 11-10-2014 at 02:51 PM.. |

It is pretty simple to do on your own. There's a dimple on the stock system to show where you cut. As long as you can cut it, the rest is cake. |

I didn't see any dimple on mine when I did the cut, looked all up and down, couldn't find it so I'm thinking it wasn't there. I've seen others say the same thing.
Regardless, it's still pretty easy to do it yourself.

Hmmm, $400 is crazy. I did it myself in the drive with my lift and tire ramps in about 1 1/2 hours.

Besides the $750 exhaust, is there any additonal accessaries required to have it installed? |

There's a special BMW clamp that needs to be used, though if you take it to a muffler shop they might weld a flange on instead.

Your system should come with clamps. I believe the tips are separate, or you can use your stock ones i heard.

If you buy it from Sun Motors you get the installation clamp and secondary exhaust value regulator with the muffler. You just need to cut the pipe at the correct distance and mount it. Once you have the location and the cutting tool it is fairly easy to do. You can knock your existing tips off and remount them onto the performance muffler if you didn't buy the extra M exhaust tips.

Reuse the clamp. Or, a better option is to have a local muffler weld the inlet pipe together. That way you can include the clamp with sale of your PE. Otherwise, you can purchase a new clamp - $75-$100 I believe.

Exactly my plan, getting the stock pipe welded will be under $100 easy and should be able to get $3-$4 hunderd for the muffler in a couple years from now since muffler will have less than 30K miles on it.

Thanks everyone for replying. I had it installed at the dealer for 280. Called some local muffler shop, they would do it for less $$ but they only open on workdays.
