Motor Trend Cars of the year since 1949. . .
I was online and came across the list of Motor Trend Cars of the year dating back to 1949, so out of curiosity I tallied them up by manufacturer. Since 1949 GM has received 24 Car of the Year awards with Ford coming in second with 14. I was a bit taken aback by the fact that BMW has only received one Car of the award and that was for the 1997 5 series, which makes us tied with AMC / Renault!

Yeah - I lost faith in Motor Trend's car of the year when the Chevy Citation won the award in 1980. I mean, this car had more stalls than The Churchill Downs. MT solidified my faith the following year when the K car won it in 1981.
BMW 3 series has been on C&D's 10 for how many years now? I realize they keep putting the Honda Accord on the list...but come on...a K car, really...really?

And yet, the magazines which had BMWs win comparison tests over the years were all reputable, objective reviews by a group of professional automotive enthusiasts.
