The ideal family car: E28 5-Series?
BIMMERPOST NEWS The ideal family car: E28 5-Series? Petrolicious has produced the wonderful story of Dean and DonnaRae Caccavo, who have never spent more then $10,000 on a car. True to this philosophy, Dean bought his E28 M5 for $9,500 and has used it as a daily driver for 200,000 miles. But their E28 story doesn't end there. I always thought I loved my BMWs, but they take it to a better level, watch the video and see what I mean Source: Petrolicious |

Have to admit this does make me pine for the mechanical whirs of the older cars, the directness of the clutch, mushiness of the brakes and the feedback from the steering. So much fun to drive even if the limits were 1/2 of what a modern car will provide.
Also required some skill to pilot as they'll jump up and bite you in the ass if you get it wrong and there's only the car to protect you. No airbags, stability control and barely any traction control. But ya, the hand positions on the steering wheel...yeesh. At least 2 of them are in need of an HPDE.

This video prompted me to go on a wild goose chase for an e28 m5 this morning, alas it was not meant to be. For the price that they're demanding I would be hard pressed to choose that over an air cooled porsche for about 10k more...I'm a fan, just not at the price point

On another note, I feel like these pretolicious/drive videos are responsible for raising the value of these cars by at least 20%. So if your in it for investment, just find out what video they're doing next and buy the car before it airs....or buy a whole stock of cars and lobby them to air it....

this family is lame as hell....in line with what seems to be 'admirable petrolhead culture' these days. Not to me it isn't.
try something new! do something different! the E28 was a great car....but you can try something else! lol |

I worked at a BMW independent when I got out of college for a couple of years and had the pleasure of driving many cars while I was there. The E28 M5 was definitely one of the coolest, most fun cars I got to drive during my time there.

I hated the steering of my 1987 E28 535i.
Everything else about the car, I simply loved. Someone once told me that the steering gearbox could be replaced with one from VW Corrado G60, if I'm not mistaken. Maybe someone here has done that? //Dan |
