Graduation gift
Sister is graduating from college. What is a meaningful gift to get her? A few of us can chip in so no budget in mind but it has to be reasonable.

Money is very practical, but it lacks any meaning. If it is not enough to be seriously meaningful, then it may be meaningLESS, which you don't want. A couple nice outfits for job interviews/work apparel (or a gift card for same) is both practical and meaningful, A nice pen set is always a nice way to commemorate this sort of thing. Getting less practical as we quit writing more and more. A watch, if she doesn't already have one. Something professional looking. Also a "rite of passage" type gift. Professional looking jewelry appropriate for her likely work environment. I always ask myself, what is something that: - She could use - She is unlikely to buy for herself - that, whenever she uses, she is likely to remember why she got it

My brother is graduating from college, as well. I think I'm just going to give him money. He got accepted into med school so he's going to do some traveling after graduation. He's going on a 7 day cruise and then overseas for a few weeks. I'm thinking $500-1,000 would be a nice gift to go along with his travels.

IMHO, Can't go wrong with a good watch, name brand you know the Rolex level , could look for something custom or boxed with stones or face in School color/colors , an engraving on backing plate to commentate the occasion.
What about getting a pro photographer to shoot the day and prepare a nice leather bound album. Make sure the entire family will be with her on this day and enjoy her successes this of course being the best gift of all. If you have to pay for some distant old friend or family take it out of your budget if they can't afford it . Best to her, Tom |

IF she hasn't already ordered her "sheepskin" the family could kick in extra money to get on of the upgrade options on the diploma. I didn't get more than an actual piece of paper and cheap plastic frame for my undergrad, but when I go the masters from USC I spent a decent amount to have it put on hardwood, with a clearcoat to preserve it.
