Sorta-kinda verified: a Z5 coupe is coming
Cross-posted by none other than SCOTT26 on another thread (original post here):
<<The new Z5 is the first of models co-developed and pooled resources vehicle with Toyota. It will be a Roadster first followed later by a Coupe which will mirror how BMW place their X models. With the standard core SAV and sportier SAC models. With the Roadster being Z5 and coupe being Z6. If you check BMWs naming strategy. They copyright a multiple of numerical lines, especially in regards to emerging markets where they offer X5s with a letter or name before them. Its about renewing and protecting their intellectual property.>> And there ya have it. Discuss.

He's been saying about as much for a few years now. It's like in Game of Thrones when they say "winter is coming"... It's been coming for 5-6 years now, meanwhile Bran (and the current Z) are old as fuck already

The car's deep into stress testing now, which wasn't the case (ahem) a few years ago, and there is a coupe mule that is among the test vehicles (see the photo in the original post). Rumors from multiple places are saying Toyota's version of the coupe will be badged a Supra. If SCOTT26's still saying this at this point, that means it's likely still in BMW's plans, which makes positioning the coupe in the marketplace very, very interesting -- particularly since it'll almost certainly be built in Austria in limited numbers. See this thread for reference -- there are a number of folks on this board who are desperate to see a coupe version of the Z5 but have no idea what niche it would fill.

The first line of my post
http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=883003 Many, many other posts like this over the years. Even the trademarking of z1-z6 was mentioned a long time ago. Anybody that hasn't been living under a rock has heard the supra rumors since before the FT-1 even. Don't get me wrong, I want to see this car as much as you do, but the progress on it from the publics perspective has been painfully slow |
