I always wear a pair of gloves when changing oil. It's something I learned from my dad. It has nothing to do with being scared to get your hands dirty or anything, but why get oil all over your hands when you could just wear a pair of gloves then take them off when you're done. It sucks trying to get all the oil off your hands so you can get back in and start the car. It's just smart.

Heavy duty nitrile gloves FTW ! Been using them for a long time now. Added bonus is if you have a knuckle buster when wearing the gloves it usually just tears the glove not your skin.

Nitrile gloves are better for working on your cars. Natural rubber latex doesn't stand up well to petrochemicals products/byproducts (deteriorates quickly).

Save the latex gloves for your routine cavity searches and handling of bodily fluids ('cos they offer the best barrier protection, why do u think condoms are latex).

The nitrile ones aren't biodegradable. Latex is.

For this application, nitrile is still trumps. This is true when working with small pieces like bearings and such. I try to keep a box of nitriles handy in the garage.

For medical applications, a good low protein and low powder latex glove is recommended because of their cost, barrier effectiveness and as you mention it, biodegradability. Nitrile is a good high end choice especially for allergic individuals but latex is still tops.

Its getting rare these days to find medical offices that use latex gloves, not even my dentist uses them anymore. The reason being is so many people are allergic to them and prolonged use of the gloves leads to a high rate of becoming allergic to them. Both of my parents are doctors and for a while they used to have a choice of latex or latex free now all the gloves are latex free. (I think its like 1/4 of the medical work force has developed an allergy to latex).

I know personally I cant even touch a ballon anymore and my latex allergy has just gotten worse and worse.
