BMW M Drive Tour 2016. Transfăgărășan, Romania...
The day on the Transfogaraschen mountain road in June 2016 was one of the highlights of the M Drive Tour 2016 organised by the BMW Group Central and Southeastern Europe. It puts customers and prospects from 12 countries behind the wheel of a unique fleet of M cars. The event already began the previous evening in Bucharest.

Just a shame that Romania is so damn far away and this is me saying that!

Looks like the cars are registered in Austria (based on the license plates). Considering how much you need to spend over there to buy a 420d (forget a ZCP M4 with individual paint and CCB), these folks are crème de la crème...

The road definitely looks suitable for the ///M cars, it's been a while since I've been on it but this was the weekend road of my childhood . Wish I could take my F80 down there. The intro video was a bit cheesy like a Bond/Bourne Eastern European villain posse scene

I remember the times when my girlfriend from that time was screaming at me louder than the wheels of my ex E46 325 Coupe when I was driving on Transfagarasan...at least once a month I was driving on that road during the weekends...On the first European Delivery that I will make I will drive again on that road.
Actually, Top Gear had an episode a few years ago, maybe 1 or 2 years ago to be more exact on Transfagarasan. |

Yes, I remember- I think they may have called it the best road in the world, but maybe mixing it up with Bulgaria- classic road, you are lucky to have driven it!

Ok, even recognizing that the video is a BMW M commercial...wow.

You bet on that. We had some "prospects" recommendations, but the BMW Group turned them down, guess they weren't that wealthy.
I actually work at the dealer where these cars were unloaded, handled, washed and tires changed - we weren't even allowed to move the cars around, that's how strict the trainers were. All M3/M4 had the ZCP and Ceramics included, individual paints (even individual interiors ) and some had the full MPerformance treatment. M5/M6 also had the Ceramics, few M5s had some MPerformance goodie. Sunday, while cars were getting loaded for the next event, I got a call to go pick up the keys of some cars that were supposed to stay withing dealer and I had a chat with the trainers, seems some Polish and Bulgarian individuals misbehaved, they wanted to kick them out of the event, otherwise it was a fantastic and highly appreciated event. When i watched some videos, I think the drivers were actually quite restrained in driving, was expecting some drifting or at least some powerslides on those hairpins. Not BMW related, but for anyone living around this marvelous road, there's a huge event happening in about a month, 18-20th of August, Sibiu Rally Challenge, where all sorts of cars will be present, they will race on the same specific stretch of road. Search for Sibiu Rally Challenge on Facebook.

Pretty sure the guy with the M2 is a local guy, his car just arrived at the local dealer and the tires look well used. Must have had a hell of a time. Can't imagine what a blast that must have been. His car is the exact spec as mine so seeing it made me more anxious for mine to arrive.

I was born in Romania and we have some real shit roads. Glad they didn't go on those because those cars would be trashed ;0
Edit: this is probably the only good road we have in Romania... Last edited by bimmerislife; 07-20-2016 at 11:44 AM.. |
