BMW 'watching the pickup space closely'? Whaaa...

Ok, I have to file this under W T F. Luckily no BMW branded pick-ups have been spotted on the nurburgring recently

This rumor is making the rounds because BMW's Australian Marketing Manager Marc Werner said the famous BMW phrase: "Never say never," ... "We're watching the space closely."

Now don't forget, the Australians are famously -ute crazy and the recent E92 M3 pickup concept was an overwhelming hit with them. To be honest, it was a hit with everyone.

Well people have done it at their own expense and God knows BMW are filling every single market they can. 1 series throught to 8. X1, X5's GT's, Electrics and so on. If people will buy it they'll make it. Australia is probably the number 1 market for this. China, USA, Thailand close behind...

They already make plenty of abominations in my opinion.

Not really recent. The E92 M3 'ute was around years ago. I guess they must be taking it out to dust the cobwebs off.

Yes, however MB has been testing/building a pick up seen in camo. Don't think BMW will be far behind. If it sells they will build it (and 20 different variants and special editions).

Mercedes is doing a pick up so of course BMW has to watch the space.

I doubt this would ever make it to market. I'm thinking he's saying that to just keep their options open, and not appear close-minded as a brand.

If they made a pickup up styled like the Dakar X3s, that would be kind of cool I think.

Do they seriously think those folks in Texas would rather get a BMW/Benz pickup than those from the American Big 3?

If VW sold a diesel Amarok it could do great and if BMW had a Amarok competitor it could do very well.

Reason is because of the reliability. Can't say the same about these Euro made pickups if they produce them.

I really cannot see their selling point besides "The Ultimate Luxury Pickup Truck". Who buy these trucks for luxury?

Or The Ultimate Hauling Machine

well yes! its not like europe is in anyway trying to compete with heavy duty trucks or even 1/2 tons. size would be more in line with canyon/tacoma

I think you'd be surprised how many people own a pick up that tends more to the luxury side than the utility. They buy trucks because their father always had a truck or they live in a part of the country where that is just what a man drives. Then their is also the guy who "needs" the fully loaded f350 because he may one day buy a boat. Their are certainly a number of trucks in my neighborhood that haven't seen anything but groceries in their beds.

It will make it to market UNLESS they want to loose to Mercedes. Doubt that seriously.

Mercedes is in such a hurry, they are using Nissan as a partner to get theirs out STAT.

Tesla is going to make one as well. The Big 3 are in for a huge awakening. HUGE
