Fix or replace my 2008 128 convert
I have owned since new a 2008 128 M6 convertible. I have 195000km. Typical maintenance issues, pads, fluids, drive belt, etc are looked after regularly.
No major issues, but replaced the spark coils 2 years ago, the belt tensioner last fall and the thermostat and water pump this spring - but now looking at 4 new struts/shocks and an oil pan gasket (as it is weeping out oil). Trying to decide to do the repairs or replace the car with a 235/240 M6 convertible. Worrying about the 128s' clutch and top mechanism (even though they seem to be ok) What do you guys think? Thanks!! Last edited by RomanPD; 08-02-2016 at 04:06 PM.. |

I'll take a stab at this! I had a 2008 128i convertible. The motor for the convertible top needed replacement 3 weeks or so before factory warranty ended. I got lucky with a no charge replacement - lucky timing. Otherwise it was (so far) the best car I ever owned in terms of lack of mechanical issues. I sold it for a 2013 128i convertible - that car rattled, lost oil (slowly), needed spark coils and a few other minor things. Now have a 228i (yes, you guessed it - convertible). So my approach has been to replace these cars before warranty expires and there is still some value left in the vehicle.
