In the future, “sheer driving pleasure” will also be defined by how automated driving can make life easier for our customers. Find out how the BMW Group is implementing "fully autonomous driving" over five levels of development.

I don't know...until someone who thinks they can fix their autonomous driving car themselves and as a result causes a crash...governments will probably impose stricter restrictions on these vehicles

But we can't fight progress...autonomous cars are here to stay.

Will there be a "douche bag" mode that tells the car to refuse to let others merge, tailgate, and cut off other motorists?

I do envision different driving modes. Think about it... You drive differently in different situations. A great example is when you have various passengers in your car. You surely drive differently when you have an elderly family member in the car, maybe a little different with wife and kids in the car. Maybe different again when you're alone. If my autonomous car drove like I had an elderly family in the car all the time it would make me batty! Should make Sport mode interesting!

The elderly example is a good one. Likewise with clients, a boss, etc. never thought about it but that would definitely be beneficial.

I'd also like "intoxicated" mode to drive way too cautiously.

Way too many drivers are already driving at level 3: "completely turning their attention away from driving".
Too bad their cars aren't autonomous yet.

The Audi Q7 following my tail this morning on the motorway already had this feature. Either that or the driver was just a pr*#k

Absolutely! That's what the coders are for. In fact the more 'douche bag' features you like the more expensive it will be. And if you know how to code yourself then the 'douche bag' sky is the limit. I can only imagine.... lets see, where is my coding laptop...

All this auto pilot crap just makes me nauseous. Have there been any studies done on who is at fault when the eventual collision happens with all this crap? Obviously it will never be foolproof, and I could see scenarios where people just get straight mowed down in the streets. Is the driver liable for manslaughter at that point, or can he blame it on the car and the automaker gets sued for millions? Will insurance companies cease to exist in regards to automobile insurance?

Crap is so stupid anyway, who the hell wants to ride around in a pod. Just another glorified iDumbass gadget for the drones.

Honestly the timeline in the video is too slow. Tesla claims level 5 available now in all cars that can be enabled upon regulatory approval. Meanwhile BMW makes a marketing vid celebrating 2020. Hurry up. Beat Tesla.

Yes, but if you want to do it every weekend and not break the bank, pay one time for a car software and you are good to go

That doesn't even make any sense. Where would you test out this magical car software, on public roads? You'd still need to be at the track, which still costs money.

I'm not even going to entertain this discussion any further. Stick to Gran Turismo

Boy, I am not looking forward to this. I will be afraid of cars "decisions". Don't care about the people that pick a such car, is their choice, just make sure you are not interfering with my driving, nor put me in danger.

How about a membership to one? I guess you are the one drooling over a free poster of M cars

You shouldn't entertain it, your comment is shallow and childish. Maybe you should ask mommy to buy you grand tourismo for your 16th birthday

I can't wait to hear about other drivers trolling and bullying autonomous vehicles. It is going to be entertaining!

I think the difference with Tesla vs. BMW is BMW would rather not sell you a beta version of their vehicle and have you test to make sure it works. But hey, if you want to buy half baked autonomous driving and trust your life then be Elon's guest.
