Extended coverage by BMW or by others?
not sure if this topic has been beaten to death.... what 3rd party companies do you have to cover repairs/service on your car/sav? Is there a big difference on price and coverage offer by 3rd party vs BMW? with 3rd party how does it work, if you need a repair/service? (card with account number or policy number you show it to service adviser?) im planning to keep my car a little longer probably 2 or 3 yrs more? 28k as of now the wife has the x1 with same mileage and may need extended coverage as well thanks in advance for any info provided |

I went MAP (Motorist Assistance Plan). I bought this via the BMW Service Rep as it was $3k cheaper than the same BMW one. I got another 4 years 50k miles extended for about $3.5k. No difference so far. When my went into the shop for oil leaking, MAP paid for it all, as well as a rental car. I'd definitely recommend getting one for these cars.

I purchased my 2011 e91 328i from a small whole sale car broker, lil over a year ago. I added a 3yr extended warranty from a company called Alpha. It was like $3,000 and they worked it into my monthly payment.
I have since paid off my car. This warranty company is great. Within a month of owning the car the oil pan seal and AC compressor needed replacing. $100 deductible and they covered the rest! My shop was astonished with all the parts and systems it covered. So it basically paid for itself after one visit to the shop. I have about half left on the warranty, and have used it about 4 other times all paid for by them with no issues. I highly recommend Alpha. |

Good thread. Anyone have experience with Endurance or AAA?
Also, are there any financial advantages to buying an extended warranty early, or is it the same cost just to buy it once the factory warranty expires? |

I just looked into the CarMax one and 90% of the reviews were horrible, they basically don’t want to pay for anything!

subrscribing. I had a great warranty on my last non-BMW vehicle from National Warranty corp but will want to purchase a warranty for my BMW for after the factory warranty runs out (2019 or 50k miles, whichever comes first)

My 2014 M5 warranty runs out in a week. Looking at platinum/exclusionary policies.
Alpha will only sell a policy at the time of purchase. BMW wants $7500 for 3yr ext /75k total miles. ($50ded) Carchex was $7600 for a 3yr/36k extension ($200ded) USAA needs to verify my wife's military time to even get me a quote. The Warranty Group (via Ft Wayne BMW) quoted $4200 for 6yr/60k extension. I'm awaiting more details (their google reviews are pretty poor) Protect My Car was exclusionary at $4616 - 60mo up to 100k ($100ded) - they backed away and said car was not eligible at all due to its axle back exhaust. Will update. Last edited by bquicksilver; 03-05-2018 at 03:46 PM.. |

For my X1, USAA quoted me $2450 for 60 mos and up to 75K total miles on the car for an exclusionary policy. Same insurance company behind it as Route66 (Assurant Services). |

That seems pretty good. I will have to check into it for my new to me / used X3 I just got. I can handle my 135i not running, I can't do without the X3 as the primary vehicle.

USAA probably best, but obviously restricted. Geico is interesting and very cheap, but you need for car to be covered from new (in other words paying for 4 years of nothing, even though it was around $50 - $75 per term or 6 months iirc).
Warranty Solution looked the best for the price of the EW I examined. Deductible is waved if service is performed at the BMW Dealership I purchased it from. And obviously the dealership will use BMW Parts. There are some other Companies with good reps, but regional or State coverage only. Last edited by IK6SPEED; 03-18-2018 at 11:12 PM.. |
