Any Vegas Fans in Here?

I'm a huge Las Vegas nut, going at least 3 times a year (so I guess not THAT huge). Anyway, I was checking in to see who else here shares the same passion -- or, if I'm crazy spending precious modification money on casinos / gambling / booze / etc

i used to go a lot more but toned it down to 2-3 times per year. Normally during week 1 of the NFL season and some other random time to take a break

I actually dislike the place - find it depressing - but then I don't smoke nor gamble, and that's a big part of it.

I don't smoke and I don't go there to gamble, I have Atlantic City for that. Here's why I go to Vegas:
  • World Class Shows -- every person I've brought to see Absinthe has loved it
  • Best Nightclubs in the U.S. (in fact, it's one of the few thriving Nightclub scenes)
  • Amazing food; legit every world-famous chef has a restaurant here
  • You can have fun just people watching
  • Dayclubs / pool parties are amazing

To your point about it be depressing, I feel that way at some of the lower-tier properties. But, if you stay at the Wynn, Venetian / Palazzo, Aria, Cosmo, or Bellagion, you avoid a lot of that stuff...

Vegas is the (adult) entertainment capital of the world for many good reasons. The city that truly never sleeps. There's definitely more to Las Vegas than hookers and casinos. They also have the best shows, restaurants and biggest party scene in the entire world.

I'll be there this weekend to take part of the highly anticipated Pacquiao vs Broner fight.

Ah damn! I wish I was there...I'm so excited for my trip in May -- I can hardly get work done at the office.

Last time i was in Vegas was for a bachelor party, and aside from shows and restaurants I found the place to be boring if you're not into gambling.
I definitely get the appeal though.

I ran over a car with a tank, tracked a 911 GT3 at over 130mph, and jumped off a 30 story tall building... you just need a good tour guide. Every person I take to Vegas loves it and no gambling is involved.

Sorry, not trying to sell the place, but figured I'd defend it haha...or maybe it's because I'm a degen.lol

I love the Cosmo! But the people watching is not what it used to be, since they've changed the sidewalks on the strip....

I have nothing against it, just giving my 2cents. We did a lot while we were in town, i just didn't mention stuff like the race track, gun ranges, cabana parties, etc. Personally for me, the highlights were the shows and the food. Maybe i'm getting old. Also i really liked the hotel - we stayed at the wynn, which is supposed to be one of the nicer ones.

I'm always there for SEMA/AAPEX week for work but never have any personal time to myself. Always want to see some shows. Always stay at Wynn, Venetian. Stayed once at SLS and hated it. Treasure island isn't a bad lower tier hotel.

I love Vegas but let me tell you the thing I absolutely hate. Why's my lips so chapped all the time while I'm there????

I've not been to a lot of shows there (just 1 in fact - but it was good). I'm not much of a nightclubber (nearly 50) but did go to Hells Kitchen with my parents when they came up from NZ last year. The people watching is amusing at times, or depressing - depends on the venue as you say. Even some of the high end properties there's still people in wife-beaters and flipflops with a cigarette in their mouths - puts me off. I guess I expected Monaco, and was horribly disappointed.

I guess there's not a lot there for me other than shows and restaurants, but I can see why others enjoy it.

I've been once for business. At the time I found it to be quite douche-y. Seemed like everyone had a Jersey Shore type vibe at the time. Way too many dude's in skin tight shirts, overly abusing hair products and wearing sunglasses inside on the bridge of their noses. It seemed that everyone that I talked to, that lived there, left me wanting to punch myself in the face after.

I would go back though and try it again. Something tells me it might be a little different now.

I'm flying in from NYC so taking the time off is annoying. I go from Thursday - Monday and need Tuesday and Wednesday to recover. If you include AC, I'm at the Casino 12 times a year lol.

Am I the only one not that impressed by the food in Vegas? It's all lacking soul over there. Menus are on iPads, server give you rehearsed lines and the food is average at best.

In my 20s Vegas was full of wonder and fun to be had. Was going at least once a month and was winning a lot to the point where I was getting flown out with everything comped by MGM. Unfortunately, everything I won was literally won back by the casinos soon after. Fortunately I kicked the addiction before it became a problem. I go maybe once or twice a year now for bachelors parties and shows/NBA summer league.

I hear you. There are some "famous" chefs but they're all some kind of branch, not the main restaurant. There's a handful of Michelin star restaurants and a single 3 star restaurant - otherwise it's all food for the masses.

Most places are above average but they do not stand out. They follow a cookie cutter mold to create profitable restaurants that sell average food for average prices. There's not much that is both affordable and stand out good.

I do like the food in Vegas, but it is usually of the all u can eat variety. It's very enjoyable but I wouldn't go to Vegas especially for the food.

I go to Vegas maybe every couple of years... usually it is not my choice, it's because other people want to go. Everything in Vegas is very fake and I'm ok with that but I can only handle it in small doses.

I've gone a few times in my life, most recently 3 months ago with a good group of guys and gals. Had a fk ton of fun in our two nights there. Marquee in the Cosmo was the most fun club I've ever been to.

Vegas is only a 2-night town for me. Behind the facade is a frankly, very depressing and shitty town. There is no "legitimate" economy there, it's a pretty poor place outside of Henderson. Henderson 'aint that great either. I have been considering taking a Physician job down there but am leaning against it as Vegas just doesn't strike me as a good place to actually live. Dating is a disaster too, good luck finding an educated young professional around.

On a side note, it's truly interesting observing how each and everything in Vegas, down to the design of the pedestrian walkways, is engineered to get you tempted to spend money.
