Cat 3 now? Damn here I was thinking it would just be rain and some high winds in Miami. Better get my shutters up this weekend. |

Yes but of course the forecast a few days ago was for it to make landfall as a tropical storm at best... Still a long way out so who knows! Cone covers the entire state but centered on central coast.

Looks like earlier forecast shifted south a bit after it looked like forecast was heading further north earlier. Still too early / far away to really tell how FL will be affected. We’re leaving for a previously planned (but well timed) trip to Asheville on Friday but looking like I’ll need to move the patio furniture, grill, etc. to garage tomorrow unless forecast shifts pretty hard north. One more thing to do.... but better safe than sorry. I think next update is at 5 with a few more before before I need to make a decision tomorrow. I hope everyone else is already prepared or preparing right now (supplies - still plenty of time for shutters).

If you need batteries or other supplies aside from food, try Amazon today to arrive by Friday. Easier than stores.

Sigh. Good old south florida. As soon as that hurricane cone graphic appears on any local TV, people turn into apocalypse survivors from The Walking Dead

Some models carry it across the peninsula and into the Gulf of Mexico then veering north into the panhandle... but models looking that far out are questionable. Other models have it making landfall then veering north over the peninsula and moving up into Georgia etc.

Dora the Explorer, or Dorian the Destroyer?
Before the storm even entered the Caribbean, I called it as Cat 3 making landfall somewhere between Amelia Island FL and Jekyll Island GA. One of the latest Euro model runs has it running parallel and grazing the coast all the way up to St. Augustine before turning inland, so I may not be too far off. In the back of my head, I keep thinking that it is going to take a sharp left turn and take the Andrew path through Homestead and then out into the gulf. For anyone in Florida, my suggestion is to make sure that you're fueled up for a possible evacuation and have multiple routes printed out on paper for when the time comes. Don't count on your smartphone having enough bandwidth to do anything productive online once everyone starts up Google Maps or Waze at the same time and hits the road.....

Looking more serious by the day / hour. Got all the patio furniture, grills, etc. into the garage today and heading to Asheville tomorrow morning.
Trying to get some family members who live closer to the coast to come stay in our house which is inland and has a generator available, but everyone is still trying to figure out when / if they need to leave. It's still a very wide cone for something that could make landfall in 3 days. Basically the entire state needs to prep, particularly the east coast.

Yup....Shutters closed, food was prepped (I'm a disaster ready kinda), gas in cars, extra water gotten, the cars are going to be backed into the garage (call me crazy but something is telling me to do this), and we got 15 candles I've been waiting to burn.
Got enough beer for the wife and I for two weeks...I expect it to last a few days. I rode out the 4 hurricanes in 04' in Lakeland. I lived. The house's roof is fairly new. Lord help us. I'm about 19 miles from the coast so.... |
