Crackle and Pop - do folks really love this?
Hello all -
I am not an old, old fashioned or outdated (i would like to think so anyways :-)) guy..i like bleeding edge technologies, gadgets etc...but i cannot for some reason wrap my head around all the numerous videos of people / influencers modifying their cars to make their back boxes crackle and pop! I would like to tune my car next, and i see some tuners offer this "feature" - but wanted to understand (without any judgement if this is something you like) whether this is a popular mod. I for one, am all about the intake, engine noise and of course a nice deep growl from the back...but not the crackle and pop... Again - i do not mean to offend or upset anyone...we all have our own individual tastes, but trying to understand whether maybe i am the odd one out :-)

its not for me. if it was one or two cracks every third or fifth downshift, i'd dig it, but its too much when it sounds like a hail storm on a tin roof.

To each their own really. They're popular with just as large a group as they are unpopular. And age isn't a filter as I know a lot of young people who hate it and know just as many oldheads that love it.
At the end of the day, it's pure preference. Not really worth it trying hard to wrap your head around.

I personally am not a fan of the burble tunes.
I have had a Stage II BPM Sport engine tune on my car for years. BPM Sport is one of my sponsors and Mike Benvo sent me a Burble Tune to try out and do an install video on. Ive had it on my car for a few months now and the novelty wore off like two weeks after installing. Theres a point where its just a bit too obnoxious. I will be going back to my normal non-burble Stage II.

It is in fact one of the absolutely worst "cool" trends going on right now. Tends to be people dying for attention that have it too.

Hate them, even on an exhaust as glorious as our cars. Don't get me wrong, I like it when the car does it naturally (I'm fully catless)

I think this is what cars that have horrible exhausts, like turbo engines, do to try to convince us they are not steaming piles of shit
My F80 CS and Mini Cooper S both have pops/burbles to try to disguise how lame they sound My two E9X M3s have exhausts loud enough to wake the dead, especially the E90, and do not need any embellishment |

This is merely an opinion of mine but the crackle pop stuff serves ZERO purpose! I personally feel this became popular in the last 5-8 years as forced induction hit all manufacturers due to emissions goals. So how can you make a bland, unappealing turbo 4 or 6 sound "better".....you make it do something/anything special and you're in snap, crackle, pop mode. I could care less if my opinion is viewed as an "old mans" opinion. I would consider the crackle pop mod if I had an F series M3 or newer because they produce unappealing sound as is IMO. I believe my opinion will become more unpopular as the years pass and I am ok with that.

burble tunes are garbage, all the major tuners on this board support burbles 100% tho.
fads are temporary just like the alusil cylinders of flame tune cars.

I know alot of guys running burble tunes on their NA m3s....
The funniest part about it is how often those guys have issues with their m3. While i spend all my money on mods, they seem to be constantly crying about their cars being in limp mode, or in the shop for constant repairs. I always take that opportunity to point out the burble tune they are running, and or e85 conversions.

Had a ride on my friends Huracan it crackle and pops a lot but to be honest I loved the sound. Beautiful V10 NA. So crackle and pops are not only for turbo cars. Would I do that to my car? Noo but wanna drive it like that for a day or 2

Lol love this thread. The burbles and pops are one of the things I truly dislike about the new F8x's. Sounds like a garbage disposal choking on a spork.

Hate it, Alex recommended it with E85 tune to "empty the cylinders" and included it in my tune without asking.
I didn't like it, sounds like the car is broken. Flame tunes and two-step (on NA cars) are all the hype with millennials
