Piano black plastic left of digital cluster

Hi all,

Was cleaning the car today and noticed light scratches on the piano black trim left of the digital cluster and steering wheel.

Above the air vents.

I thought I said no to all piano black guess I missed a spot.

What can I do?

Thank you!

If such a small piece of piano black plastic bothers you, I'd recommend having it wrapped in satin or matte film. However, if you give it some time you will probably adjust to it.

Any thoughts to removing it to wrap it?

I like that idea!

Take some scratch x and lightly buff it out and come back with a little wax. I have done this on my x5 piano black and it came out ok.

It's inevitable with anything shiny and black. If you look at it wrong, it will show swirls. If you have any gloss black trim on the car such as the front grills, they too will readily show swirls.

Visit some "detailing" guys and they will polish those micro scratches/swirls for you. It will be like new again... And next time use first soft brush to remove dust before cleaning as the dust is your enemy when comes to piano black trims

As far as why its there, its supposed to match the opposite side Entertainment Cluster. Its just an extension of the design. I dont think there were any options to modify that small section.

Also, I believe there are sensors behind that small black plastic that are used for Instrument Cluster dimming. It was identified in the Window Tinting forums that darker window tint would dim the Instrument Cluster during the day. There was a work around to shine an LED light at a spot on that piece that would fix the dimming. I mention that so you dont cover it with wrap and incur some dimming issues.

The sensor is in the cluster itself not the black piece beside it.
