Garage Cabinets

Recommendations on good garage cabinets? I have a pair of metal ones that are rusting away. Not ideal for my detailing towels and such.

Thx!

I did my whole garage with Garage Living (www.garageliving.com). I find their cabinets excellent - they're mounted to the wall (so easy to clean under them as there's no legs) the doors are double-skinned so don't wobble when opening or closing - I've been really happy with them.

They did the floors, and the wall covering/ hanging system, and the overhead storage too.

Do you have a budget in mind? Newage cabinets (can be found via costco.com) are a great bang for the buck for many configurations. Otherwise Saber or Sonic cabinets (via obsessedgarage.com) but a bit more pricey.

Thx for the responses, but I don't need anything fancy. They're both very nice.

Here's what I currently have. A couple cabinets and I'm good. Just need something that won't rust in humid temps.

I bought some cabinets from home depot or lowes about 9 years ago when I moved into this house. They are still doing fine.

Recycled kitchen cabinets, just mount them up off of the floor. Check your local Habitat For Humanity Re-Store, if you have one around.

This can bring some real heartache, if you aren't VERY careful in selecting and mounting them - kitchen cabs are seldom designed to hold the weight of car tools/parts and will collapse unexpectedly, even if you bolted them to the wall like crazy. It looks tempting to just grab a set of pre-fab cabinets, but far better in the long run to buy something specific.

That's what I've got. These were sitting at the curb, free for the taking. A coat of paint latter, they've served well. Fragile?...a cupboard stacked with plates or a drawer filled with silverware pretty much equals the weight these cabinets support. Heck, while the countertop and sink were not used, they could have been...but I wanted to have the lower cabinets to be the base for the work bench.

Are cabinets required? Can you build shelving units with plywood and 2x4s?

Yep - thank you! It's been a life long dream, and I just bought a second one - identical, but this one is RHD and will be kept in Europe for now.

UPDATE: Finally pulled the trigger on some new cabinets. Went with Ulti-MATE through Garage Force (my neighbor happens to sell them). They're well-built and was able to score 2 of them for the price of one Saber cabinet.

Oh yeah, and what have you done in the last two years?

for all the work you have done to transform your home. I keep your posts hidden so my family doesn't expect that out of me

I have several of these:

They are available at Sam's Club. I also have a few of their wall mount cabinets and two different work benches. Really nice quality at an excellent price.

As usual I cheaped out and went with a couple of Sears Craftsman tall cabinets: One full of detailing supplies and one mostly empty. I also got a semi-matching workbench. My garage is a pigsty -- I'm too embarrassed to post a photo.

I’m a big fan of reusing kitchen cabinets, and now they are online (FB Marketplace for example), because I’m cheap and garage cabinets get dirty and fluids spilled if you do any work in the garage.

For the wall cabinets, use lag bolts through a 2x2 to rest the cabinets on, then screw in the tops as originally mounted (there is a stringer in the cabinet), obviously into studs. The 2x2 (could be 1x but a little less to rest on), gives a nice rail to hang hooks or screws for tools, etc to keep them off of a workbench below.
