I can only imagine how badass that bike is as I saw an S1000RR up close when I was at the M Track Days and that thing was insane with the carbon frame and everything else, Now this one seems on another level!!

As the current owner of six BMW bikes and having been an owner since 1971, I can truly say we have reached the zenith of "M is for Marketing".

Do you realize there are currently (2020) three BMW X3 (non-PHEV) models with "M" in their model designation and only one without it? For 2021 they've pared it down to 2:1 with the "Competition" soccer-mom SUV now being reduced to merely an option within the "X3M" model.

The current S1000RR is nice, but I wouldn't get rid of my V4S Corse for it. An M1000RR? Curious to see how it rides in comparison. It is that much more track oriented than the "standard" S1000RR so hopefully my local dealer gets one and can actually throw a let over it.

The bike is a homologation effort. The engine has been reworked to get if I remember correctly an additional 500RPMs before redline. 212HP with lighter pistons and titanium connecting rods. The suspension has been tweaked too. There are a bunch of other things that make this bike unique over the standard RR.

One of the posts above mentioned a carbon fiber frame. This is incorrect. The HP4 is the only bike in the line up that got a carbon fiber frame. This latest gen RR has carbon fiber wheels which is an option on the standard RR that is part of the M package.

I'm in the market for the RR as that's what the track school I attend every year (except this year due to the stupid virus) uses. Initially, I thought I was going to stretch to buy one of these Ms. But the $40k price tag doesn't make sense for me as to how I'll be using the bike.

As I've been saying for a while, too bad the design team for the RR hasn't been loaned out to the auto division.

the bike looks good, if not too japanese. The first gen s1000rr design is what I like the most since it's somewhat polarizing with its asymmetrical headlights:

And I think that this new grille design doesn't look half as bad as people say, especially with euro plates. The fluo green car on the left kind of looks good. I'm willing to bet this design will grown on many people just like e60 5 series.

You probably know this. But those pit stands are used a lot for working on the bike. I have 3 different rear stands and a front stand that lifts the bike from the bottom of the triple clamp. Both of my sport bikes are kept in my garage on rear stands. I currently have my 848 torn apart due to the infamous voltage regulator. Waiting on the replacement to arrive tomorrow.

Unfortunately, for me the seat height on the S1000RR is already too high at 32.4" and this version raises that another 0.4"! There isn't a low suspension option and adjusting the swing arm only lowers the bike ~ 0.5" Adding the low seat was a free M package configuration option that they removed and therefore costs another $500+ for essentially removing padding making it even more uncomfortable.

The M1000RR fills a hole in the product line between a full on HP4 track only bike and the S1000RR street variant but I'd prefer to stick w/the S1000RR, which already has crazy enough specs, e.g. 205HP. Though, I prefer to configure the new black version w/the race package. Same as S1000RR M Package to but w/the M Forged Wheels instead of the carbon fiber wheels.

After reading this not sure carbon fiber wheels are worth the weight savings for street.

Either way not pulling the trigger until the newer 2021 EU-5 complaint versions land state side to see how they have dealt w/the flat spot in power delivery.

As I mentioned, my feeling about the M1000RR existing is due to World Superbike. Many people agree the RR is a great bike. But for whatever reason that hasn't translated into WSBK wins. They've had some pretty decent riders too. This is in my opinion is BMW's effort to elevate their efforts in WSBK by conforming to homologation requirements. The HP4 was too limited in production numbers to be allowed in WSBK. That's why there has been no discussion about how limited the numbers will be for the M1000RR.

If the M1000RR was all in maybe $5 to 10k more than the base RR, I'd consider it. But $20k which would probably be at straight MSRP or with possible mark ups, no way. Not for the riding I do.

I've also had the same thoughts about the carbon fiber wheels being a possible liability for street use. Don't understand why they won't allow swapping out of the carbon wheels for the forged ones.

I've had a lot of seat time with the previous gen RR at the track. I was intending on finding a good used example. But then, CSS has moved to this gen RR. It would make sense for me to get the current gen even though I haven't thrown a leg over it yet on the track.
