The only thing I wish BMW could offer is a video clip of your vehicle being made ... how cool that would be

that would be cool, prob be pretty tough but I imagine someone could create a app in BMW that logs the production number with the manufacturering line and can take various pics that you can log in and see it but maybe not. Nonetheless cool video OP.

Back then BMW was actively promoting the fact that you could order your X3 or X5/X6 (to your specification) and have it within 3-4 weeks from the factory.

Reminds me of the Two Hour BMW Plant tour I took in February 2020 at the Spartanburg, SC plant, which produces the entire X1 thru X7 line of Sport Activity Vehicles.
Plant has 11,000 workers, and it's 99% automated, and 85% of the production goes OUTSIDE the USA. We saw X3's as the rolled off the end of the assembly line, go out the plant door and directly into train cars to be "railed" to the Port of Charleston for shipment world wide. I highly recommend going on a plant tour once they resume. Quote:

During the BMW Spartanburg plant tour this past February, the tour guide mentioned 95%+ of the production is to custom specification based on a specific customer order; very little production today is "generic" and then shipped to a dealer.
I don't remember anything about a video of your car being produced, but the most interesting option was the "Performance Delivery" that any new BMW car buyer (US based) can choose to pickup their car at the BMW Performance Center. This is a no cost option where they put you up the night before your delivery date at the Marriott, feed you multiple times, and then let you drive BMW demo cars on their tracks (includes an off road track) before taking delivery of your new BMW. You do have to pay your way to Spartanburg, but that is hardly a downside. Also, I think the wait time for your order was 6-8 weeks, though I am guessing with the Pandemic it's probably shorter now. These are always fascinating to watch, but I really wish I could see some of the parts they don't show. For the 3 series for example, they don't show installing much of the interior, windshield, glass, etc. But I would say they do capture most of the main points!
