2020 Cayenne - Am I crazy?
OK, maybe too broad a question as most of you don't know me in person and this one idea might not actually make me certifiable.
Last year I bought a 2020 Cayenne. Went thru mental gymnastics before I picked it. And heck, it does everything they say it will. Drives like a sports car and looks great. But..... some things in Eden are not making me happy. And I've discovred I do not drive like I'm in a Porsche. Heck a Cadillac XT6 would be fine the way I drive. Guess I am old. Specifically 2 issues. 1) The transmission. Starting off can be a herky-jerky affair. My wife has a bad back and I have to really work to start off smoothly. It is getting old. 2) Voice electronics - I had a 2017 BMW with this feature and it worked a lot better. Sometimes I request a destination and it comes back with weird answers. Others, like say Home Depot, it lists them. Except I might be 2 blocks away from one but it doesn't show in the list. Porsche is behind some other cars in this area. I don't know. Paid $82k for it. Per KBB trade in value is $73k. Not too bad a hit if I deal it now. Any of you ever do this? Am I cray cray? PS - gotta go. Tee time in 30 minutes. Will read when I get back. |

I took close to a $20k hit on a 4 month old 2016 X6 50. If you aren’t happy and can afford the hit, go for it. Life is too short.

I mean the real answer is you’re not at all crazy for parting ways with a vehicle that just does not meet your needs. It’s not crazy either to realize you made a mistake and take steps to correct it, even if it costs you.
That said, i don’t get one of your reasons. Is voice control that overwhelmingly important to you? I’m not saying you’re wrong or crazy, just that i don’t get it. If it’s a showstopper to you, then so be it. The second reason i REALLY don’t get - who cares if you don’t drive your Cayenne ‘like a Porsche’? No one drives Cayennes aggressively lol The third reason i get. If your wife is in pain every time she’s in the car then yeah, that’s not gonna fly |

I'm going to say yes to your question, I didn't read your post so I'm just spitballing.

Arent there driving mode settings you can fiddle with? Like Comfort / Sport / Sport + in the BMW? Might help with the jerky throttle thing.
Our FJ Cruiser has zero throttle fidelity off the line. It's like a switch that goes from 0% throttle to 10% throttle with nothing in-between. it's super annoying when trying to parallel park, so, I totally get your gripe with the Porsche. |

Your wife's bad back is a real issue and probably won't get any better. Get yourself a nice comfy caddy or whatever. You leave those porches to us.

Don't know why anyone wants a "sport" suv to start with. Get a sports car and get an SUV or just get an SUV and deal with having an SUV if that's what you need. Personally I would not want my SUV to drive like a sports car.
As for voice control I've never used it in any car so.... Get a Cadillac XTS and call it a day. One of my favorite cars that we've owned. Would have probably like it even more if we were that old. |

Life's too short to be unhappy. If you can take the hit, sell it and move on.

Used car prices are high so you may lose less but tbh, gonna be harsh here, zero idea why people drop such money on these things. In the end they are a mid size suv, only so much you can "porsche" it.

I get it. I could never keep my car if I had to drive it in sport mode all the time. Don't get me wrong, I use it when I want to be able to move exactly when I want to move, but driving with it in sport mode during normal commutes drives me nuts. Far too sensitive and jerky - but I like having it when I want it. I know a lot of people drive in sport mode all the time, but it's just taste.
I LOL'd at you talk about the voice control as I think my F15 voice control is terrible and have stopped using it. I had a Ford Sync system prior to this years ago and it was head and shoulders above my F15 even though it was many years behind it. I used it daily for music control and HVAC control and it worked almost flawlessly. My F15 is like talking to person speaking another language. I was bitching about it on a trip and it became the trip joke with my friends that we would ask it something and see how off it would be. One day it didn't get a single thing right. Not one. It's horrible for anything except "Call XXX" and even though asks you so many questions to get there - it is easier to use the wheel and HUD to be there in 2 seconds. If Porsche is worse than this - I can't imagine! But I learned to live without it as so many other things are better about my F15 (driving experience - which is why I bought it) that it was a compromise I was wiling to make. Sounds like you are not - cut your loses while you can and save yourself a few years of more frustration. my $0.02 anyway.

I don't know what idrive version you have but voice control in my ID6 '17 F32 is excellent, better than anything I've ever tried.

I have a cayenne.
Yes trans is a little jerkier in sport and sport plus. I would say this is normal as it's a sportier version of your average grocery getter. Want comfort? Get the audi version. Electronics - never buy a Porsche for their infotainment.

TBH I also regret the money I spent on it. Yes, I can afford it. But I find myself wondering about some luxury items I own and use that I could do without. Maybe another sign of age. Really thinking of doing a Carmax thing and buying an Edge/Explorer or Telluride etc. At 6000 miles per year and no long trips it's all I need. |

I find most modern transmission AWFUL on transition from slowing down and down changing then back on even mild throttle. The 8 speed in our X1 was HOPELESS, so jerky. The 8 speed (same box?) on the X3 was nearly as bad and our Alfa ain't much good.
My Saab though, 5 speed ancient thing, absolutely smooth as butter on this transition, no comparison. |
