Getaway spots that are GREAT VALUE - Please Post!

Hey guys, I highly value the community we have here, and was wanting everyone's input. Where are some of your favorite getaway vacation/fun spots?!?!? We recently have had a post from one of our members visiting Costa Rica and Nikki is thinking of moving to NC, which got me thinking about a great time I had at Myrtle Beach (though that's in SC).

Anyways, any places you guys know of that is just super cheap or is a great value to stay there, not overrun by tourists (in other words, not completely overexposed), and is just a great place to go to with someone special, or maybe just dating.

I'm thinking exotic places with beach and sun in Mexico or Central America you guys have been to, but anywhere in the world (including USA) would be appreciated. Please share!!!

Resorts in Mexico are:

1) Ridiculously cheap compared to other places (i.e. Europe, Bahamas, Hawaii, etc.)
2) Ridiculously good regarding service - they make sure you are well treated
3) And, lastly, may be quite exotic compared to other potential resorts offerred by within the U.S.
4) There are a number of good places to hit up in Mexico - Cancun, Puero Vallarta, Rosarito, etc.

Of course, it's not a good idea to travel outside of resort areas within Mexico as the rest of Mexico isn't a safe place to be.

Dont forget Cabo San Lucas in that list of Mexico hot spots. Had a great time when I was there 3 years ago...

Thanks guys. Do you have any specifics to offer? Like names of places to stay and going rates? Are we talking like $100 a day (not including activities) for a place near the beach or what?

Also, do you book and find these places on major travel sites like Orbitz, Expedia, Travelocity, etc.... or do you need to call them up to book? Thanks.

We used orbitz for our trip to Cabo. We did have a large group, but airfare (from NY), place to stay (gorgeous villa) and free shots after getting off the airplane were about $700 a piece...

It was so cheap down there that most of the consequent costs were bar tabs...

Not extremely exotic, but Siesta Key, Florida is very nice. There aren't too many people there and they have the whitest sand in the world.

Not familiar with Siesta Key but I stayed down in Sanibel Island by Ft. Meyers and wow that was an amazing experience. I love the Gulf of Mexico. The water is sooooo warm... unlike the Pacific.

Stayed at a beachfront cottage and man that was beyond compare. Love the laid back community. Went jet skiing... had fabulous dinners and all around had the chillest time.

Went to St. John in the Caribbean (USVI) and at that time Trunk Bay was the 5th most beautiful beach in the world. Good times there!

EDIT: Forgot the "great value" part. That area is super $$$$.

Hey any US citizens have experience going to Cuba? Anything you can share would be helpful. Thanks.

cancun sucks, esp. if you're going for a romantic getaway. Maybe more suited for jock boys and nasty college b*tches gone wild videos.

Try one of the smaller towns, or, Puerto Vallarta on the West coast. I've seen pictures, and am planning on going there. It looks like a sleepy spanish village (whatever that means).
