Opinions on New Weekend Format?
since its already been fully tested, what do you guys think about this format?
-------------- in my opinion.. 1. too little time for setup (1h) will carry on track development very very heavily on sim runs prior race weekends.. thats a no no for me.. 2. Sprint race idea is not bad but cost-cap + spoiling the term Pole Position by lapping 100km is absurd.. Pole must be achieved over a flying lap.. 3. For a real sprint race.. there should be fastest lap reward doesnt have to be a point and different engine modes should be allowed..

I think the sprint race is a good idea and it seems to work quite well in world superbikes. However I think there probably needs to be bigger rewards to encourage the drivers to go at it full tilt, which is what we all want to see - drivers going flat out with none of this tyre management and looking after the engines.
So in the whole, a good idea but needs work. |

Heres an idea (just putting it out there). You could have the sprint race to form the grid for the main race but for the sprint race the drivers grid slot could be a lottery. Each driver pulls a grid slot out of a hat similar to what happens in speedway. The order in which the drivers get to pick could be based on how fast they were in free practice or by the position they finished the last race.
There is so many options for the sprint race. Get it right and it could really spice things up. |

I will always want to see some sort of qualifying for flat out quickest lap. |

As Nick says the Superpole works very well in WSBK so there is no reason why it shouldn't work with F1.
To me, FP2 seemed a bit of waste? |

It was cool only because I got to see two races this weekend. But in the end kinda dumb.
I also think the quick pace Max had in sprint culminated in their actual race battle being even more aggressive. It revealed their cards so to speak. |

an F1 race already is a sprint race, we don't need a sprint race before a sprint race. It's dumb, corny, hokey, completely unnecessary. Saturday qualy, Sunday race. That format isn't broken and doesn't need fixing.

I liked having the excitement on all 3 days, but I am not sure if the spring qualifying really added anything to the weekend other then some manufactured excitement.
Also, I think part of the reason this weekend felt so great to watch, Friday in particular, was having that crowd. When GR hit his big lap in Quali and the track went nuts. That was amazing.

The sprint race before a sprint race. Genius. If we end cheese tires, reduce fuel capacity by 2/3rds by introducing refueling, we could return to actual sprint racing. But I can only wish this. They are too far down the road to the future in which we currently reside.

The risk/reward seems so lopsided for the different teams, but it adds some more excitement with the diversity of the starting positions across the board. I don't know how I feel about it, I was certainly more entertained Friday and Saturday than I would have normally would have been, but I feel for Perez at the same time.

Would like to see something new, but the point of qualifying is to determine starting grid, not do quali for a starting grid that will later determine another starting grid
