G80 New Car Smell

Hey all,

I absolutely love the new car smell these g80 M3s have, it just seems stronger, but different, and I don't I just like it. Seems like lots of folks recommend the chemical guys new car and new leather smell products, but just wanted to see if anyone knows the nest way to keep/renew the smell these M3s have off the production line.

Thanks!

Most of that smell is outgassing of adhesives, plastic, rubber, and leather materials. My 2018 M240 still gives off hints of that smell after it's been sitting for a while, so my general recommendation is to avoid food, drinks, and anything else that may overpower the original smell (including BO), keep it clean, and keep the windows up when parked.

Also, trading it in for a new car every year helps.

Yes, if you avoid food inside and keep it clean that new car smell will remain. My 2018 M3 still smelled new when I sold it (more so when it was parked in the sun).

so far as getting a new car, but I will be keeping my 21 M3C for quite awhile.

Everything else you said makes sense, but this question was more around products that could/can be used for this new car smell. I ordered the chemical guys new leather and new car smell off Amazon a moment ago, just to see how they smell, but curious if anyone on here has a tried and true product they use for this.

Thanks!

No fast food inside the car, esp. fries.

I was loaned an Audi A6 one time when I took my car in for service at the dealership. In the cup holder there was a cup half filled with grounded coffee. The car had a fresh smell to it which I really liked. It was like walking into a starbucks. The coffee was their to neutralize any odor. Same concept when you go cologne/perfume testing and you smell the coffee beans to reset your sense of smell.

Don’t use cg products. Zaino has been noted for a very long time at being able to replicate new car smell from one of their leather products. Unfortunately have not tried it myself to date to report.

You are absolutely correct. The “new car smell” that people always love is nothing more than chemical gases and volatile organic compounds that are very unhealthy for people offgassing off of all the new stuff. That’s why it goes away after some time because it goes away.

I new this was the cause of the smell, but don't care, I love it and want to hold on to it and hopefully use something if I can to replicate it.

They have been trying to replicate new car smell for decades. I remember when I bought my first used car as a teenager they had these special things in there to make it smell new. It was kind of funny. Our G80’s smell especially good because it’s genuine leather however because of that the smell will go away faster.

The Zaino leather sprays smell amazing, there are 2 of them 1 to clean and one to seal (I think).

I agree the smell is outgassing. I had bought a few chemical guys products, about 6-7 years ago, but then I started getting into real detailing. Today, I wouldnt own anything of theirs, except maybe VRP. The rest is no good for me. Better products out there, much cheaper.

Might want to hold off on to a car longer than a year two. You don't want the toxic chemical off-gassing be the cause of your death.

Haha! I've never contemplated what happens if I get a new car every year. That's hilarious.

The chemical guys new car smell spray works well. It only lasts for about 3-5 days but it smells similar. I think the only thing that will get you 100% is carpet adhesive haha
