Minor scratches - Please assist
Hello all you cosmetic gurus, need your assistance!
Background: I honestly have no idea where or how my BLK Sapphire G82 endured this displeasure. Nonetheless, as I was hand washing the car (have ceramic pro) I noticed some scratches to the car. Even though I wash 1-2 times a week and live in the suburbs this still happened. It looks like someone swiped the car ever so gently and it took a lot of the ceramic off (no big deal) but also gouged/scratched a bit in two separate areas. (Again have no clue how this happened, but that’s life) Below are two pictures (I apologize for any lighting issues but hopefully can be seen.) This is my first BMW, while I have some experience in the issue I am by no means a professional paint guy. Any help, including what to expect etc would be great. As I really have no direction on how to get this fixed…and want to. Was considering approaching an acquaintance who works at my dealers service department.(Not even sure what he can do yet) But still need all the info I can get. All my other past accidents have been full on repairs that needed extensive body work and paint. Since this is really just small cosmetic not sure what the most effective way to fix without a full on bumper replacement. 1) Can feel the area that clear/top coat came off. Minor linear scratch that unfortunately cannot be photographed right next to it as well. 2&3) Some looks like it can be buffed out and superficial, not sure if marks towards the top (looking left to right) of the damage is ceramic or clear coat, did not come out with wash. Towards the mid-bottom (looking left to right, pictures somehow rotated when uploaded) these are deeper little lines that look to be the ceramic, clear, and top coat coming off. |

I just went through something similar on my bumper. Unfortunately, that first pic looks like it went through the paint. You can touch it up but that never is good enough for me. Probably going to require sanding the surrounding area, spraying around the scratch, wet sanding the panel and clear coating. That's to get it back to new looking which is what I would do.
My local shop, which does great work, charged me $800 to remove and repaint the bumper. As a bonus he sprayed my front reflectors too. Most good shops can do incredible paint matching. Edit: The last one looks pretty rough too and I'm guessing will require a repaint. |

Sorry to say, but I don't think there is any thing shy of paint work that is going to fix that. They look to be through paint entirely.

I'll save you time. Detailing 101, rule of thumb is, if you can catch your finger nail on it, it can't be corrected.
