Long overdue! Now let's just hope BMW enables it for all the cars that were "decoded".

No, they have self leveling and cornering capability, adaptive is moving the drivers headlight more to the left side when driving at slow speeds in order to have better vision of the road, and changing the light pattern when you speed up and stuff, look up variable decoding lights

Correct. It was turned off (decoded) on pre LCI.

Some North American spec F series cars like the 2,3,4 LCI don't have the shutters needed to use glare free high beams properly. If you code it in you'll be blinding people as the tunneling effect won't work properly. Maybe it works okay on some models but it's definitely not fine on others. For example, It worked fine for my OGM2 that had adaptive xenon's but didn't work on my friends LCIM2 with adaptive LEDs. Headlight hardware is physically different from euro counter parts in some cases.

Haha! I posted this, 3 days ago, and the post got deleted. Someone else posts it, and it's front page news.

I wonder if the overlap has to do with the Canadian market. As they allowed this starting in 2018 or something in that range. So the Canadian cars no longer are decoded and from my understanding use the same parts on the G30 as the US ones for headlights. Due to the small size of the Canadian market BMW probably found it cheaper to use the same light as the US with purely software versus doing two separate "NA" parts since Canada is also BMWNA. But I am just a customer so no idea how they are doing it in reality. |

damn I deleted my comment after 2 minutes to ask another question and you already responded.
I don't think Xenon lights ever had the adaptive option; swirling to light up the corners during turns maybe, but nothing like dimming specific points based on other cars' lights. You have to have LED arrays to accomplish something this sophisticated. |

I think the newer adaptive xenon's are more complex and proficient than you think. My F87 with GFHB coded in was capable of detecting road signs at night on the highway and would turning on the right high beam to illuminate them while keeping the left one off. Never tried the tunneling feature but I'm almost certain it's functional. How good it is I don't know.
