That was childish (dealership drama)

I canceled an order for an M340i from a dealership, mainly because they would only sell me the car if I agreed to pay $1200 for some paint protector I didn't want. I found the car somewhere else and bought that one under more agreeable terms. I also called the 800 BMW number to ask if they could do that. Well, clearly they didn't like that much because they made me chase after them to get my deposit refunded, which they eventually did. That was a month ago.

Fast forward to today. I get a letter in the mail telling me they denied my credit application. OK, but I dumped you first, so there! Ha! Seriously though, my credit is excellent. Why on earth would they send me that letter? Just to be childish? The order had been canceled already a month ago, deposit refunded, not to mention I could buy 2 more BMW's if I wanted to (I don't), so what's the point? Just a passive aggressive jab? That's all I can figure.

Why are most car dealerships so scummy?

if they ran the credit report after you exited the deal, is that legal ?

would the c. bureaus have the date the dealership pulled your credit ?

I don't know. There is a number to call for an explanation of why it was denied. I'll call them tomorrow to see why the letter was sent and make sure they understand they don't have my permission to access my credit from this point forward.

If you filled out a credit app but didn't draw on it, it's standard. I got the same letter twice recently. First was for a house refi. I decided to go with another mortgage broker. I had already filled out a credit app for the other broker and obviously didn't close on the loan with them. I got said letter in the mail a couple of weeks later stating my credit app was denied.

Same thing happened with my credit union. Got pre-approved for a bike loan through them to buy my new S1000RR. Dealership got BMW Financial to match the credit union's interest rate. I got the dealer to throw in an accessory if I went with BMW Financial. They did. So I didn't go with my credit union. Same thing. A few weeks later, I get a letter stating my credit app with my credit union was denied.

Neither notices affected my credit score.

Great, thanks for that. I'm hoping that's what it was.

Bureaucracy, bureaucracy! I remember that when I was applying to law schools, I accepted one and denied another and about a month later, the one I turned down sent me a scholarship offer.

Different parts of the bureaucracy don't always coordinate with each other.

Not all dealership try to screw you like this, but ones like this need to be called out.

What is the name of the dealer?

Nice, that coating is straight up robbery. Just picked up my wife a 2019 Audi from the stealership and also had the paint coating -$1899. I flat out refused to pay for a coating they put on 30k mile paint with imperfections. Told them it's gonna cost me double to fix their fuck up and they dropped the charge.

Best part is that they didn't wash the car very well and had water marks which the coating was supposed to protect. I grabbed the flyer off the desk and walked out to the car and showed them the water spots. They couldn't say shit.

By the way, the $1200 for this alleged "paint protector" might cost only the dealer a few bucks and if you went to a car wash would disappear in only a few visits.

your BMW FS letter is a standard issue for an ordered unit credit application to lock rates and residuals. When the order wasn't finalized with the approving deal it's required by law for that letter to be sent. It creates confusion, without knowing more it's probably nothing and not the sour grapes dealer seeking vengeance.

Sounds reasonable. Also these cars fly off the lots. I doubt they would care this much. It's not like they're stuck with some crazy car no one will buy.
