It struck me as odd that a different member and not the OP DMd me. I asked ZeeM8 if he could take a phone call as I had a question re the item. He would not. I asked if he could txt me pictures of the actual item. He sent two pictures he pulled from Google images.

Hope this clarifies my concern.

I was able to talk to the OP who confirmed he has no idea who ZeeM8 is.

Admin, please check out the member Simeonsk. Attempted to scam me by txting me his number and posing as another member who was interested in buying an item I have for sale.

Can confirm, I've been getting hounded by scammers PM'ing me with 0 posts and 0 rep, accounts basically created the day before. All want to email/text and refuse to discourse through PMs or post on my FS/WTB threads. I thought e90post had a post minimum requirement for PMs?

Yup, I just replied to a post seeing if something was still available, and a new user Brentstark just PM'd me asking me to text them.

I wonder how the hell he got PM rights if he just joined today?
There are all kinds of threads/posts about newbies not having PM rights yet. I wonder if they found a get around.

I know some hack into old existing, inactive accounts. Maybe that's how?

Feel free to explain via pm to admin and mods so that loopholes can be closed.

To all: very low post count reaching out to you = BEWARE of scammers.

I doubt it
As I stated above, almost all the scammers reaching out had a join date of [current month, current year] and usually with 0 rep/0 posts. Some had like 1-5 rep/0 posts, I didn't even think that was possible.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the throwaway/spam accounts were created a day/a few days before either. They are promptly deleted within a few days but it is still annoying getting the spam clogging up my inbox

New accounts are a massive red flag, but be cautious of the 8-year member with 1000+ posts - often these are hijacked accounts.

If you're dealing with someone who sounds scammy but has a long history on the board, go back through their posts - you might find they hadn't posted in 4 years until recently. That would be a MASSIVE red flag if someone reappears out of nowhere to start soliciting deals.

uhhh... YEAH haha *begins sweating profusely*

Jk, I don't have 1k+ post count but I promise I'm me. Luckily those kinds of scammers are rare. I haven't encountered one using a hijacked account yet.

If you're quickly approached by someone offering to pay, immediately, more than you quoted: don't get baited.

Potential Scammer - dholx57

Hey Bimmerpost, just a heads up, I may have encountered a scammer on the forum. (dhol×57)

I purchased a staggered set of 792m wheels and won’t get any further replies from seller. Paid last Friday and still do not have confirmation or communication that wheels were atleast shipped. Just a heads up in case anyone else engages with this person or unfortunately had bad experience.

Thanks

Let me guess. He sent you a pm and asked you to txt him?

Typical scam around here.

Let me guess make a guess as well, he's (she's) been registered for a super short amount of time and made a handful of useless posts?

Start trying to get your money back via whatever means you can, because you have indeed been scammed. This is why so many of them register here, because it works.

How did you make your payment, was it using a credit card or another method? If it was a CC just dispute the charge.

These are the assholes who whine about not being able to PM as soon as the register.

Hope you can get your money back.

Crap!!! Yes on the text message and paid via Zelle so I think I’m somewhat screwed as they don’t “refund”. Been a member on various forums for 20+ years and this is the first time I think I got caught. Wish me luck but wanted to pass along so no one else gets caught by this username.
