Does anyone have a picture of 2023 X1's included temporary spare tire?

Does anyone have a picture of 2023 X1's included temporary spare tire? (at least BMWUSA's website says it's included)

As long as I'm asking, why does BMWUSA feel the need to not offer run-flat tires?

BMW Canada does not include temp spare tire, although I'm not sure if they equip X1s over there with run-flat tires? Canadian 2023 X1 shown on many YouTube video show the rear floor being just one big empty space.(which oddly enough look so big that a full-size spare will probably fit just fine?)

Thanks!

Honestly, run flat tires suck, unless they've gotten significantly better than the ones that came on my e90. I'm planning on replacing mine with a tire patch kit and a battery powered compressor so I can use the extra space to hide stuff. My 2020 430i came with non run-flats and no spare, which I thought was odd, but no complaints from me!

If you look at this video, you can see it around the 10:20 mark.

that's exactly what I was looking for... oh wow, it really takes up all that space down there. I will also look into replacing it with a tire repair kit/compressor.

Run-flats are almost certainly being phased out on every re-design moving forward. The benefits don't typically outweigh the cons for the consumer, and run-flats are apparently worse for the environment, making it a pretty easy decision for BMW as they pivot to being a sustainable company.

Having had to chuck a 3 month old run flat after running over a nail, agreed.

If you find a good indy shop, they will patch a run flat. But I'd rather have non RFTs with a spare, personally.

what about those self-sealing tires from Michelin and Continental? I haven't kept up with tire tire in a few year..... but self-sealing seems like a good idea to me... assuming they make the proper sizes for Bimmers?

I've patched or plugged run flats a few times with no issues, mainly because I was too cheap to go buy a new one from the dealership

does BMW use run-flat tires on the 2023 X1 in Europe? or do they provide a tire repair kit? all the videos that I've watched showed no spare tires over there. Does BMW have an official tire repair kit that I can buy in the US?

BMW calls theirs a Mobility Kit, and if you can't find it at a US dealer there are a handful of sites online where they stock it from Europe. It's basically a compressor and a can of Fix-A-Flat though I hear they moved to a water based formula for easier cleanup.

Personally I'd rather go with a plug kit and a compressor. I hear the BMW techs HATE cleaning the goop off from inside the tire and rim from the Mobility Kit.

Yes, this is a weird difference between the US and Canada. The new X1 here doesn't come with runflat tires either, but like you said, we don't get a space-saver spare like in the US. All we get is a "Tire Repair Kit", feature code 2VC.

On the previous-gen X1 runflats were the default, but if you ordered the optional non-runflat tires you could choose between the repair kit OR an actual space-saver tire. Not anymore, so if we end up with a new X1 I'd probably try to source the space-saver components from the US.

someone above said that he would get a tire repair kit and throw out the temp spare.... perhaps you guys can drive to the border and make a trade?(cheaper than shipping a tire to Canada)

Lol that was me. But I'm in Honolulu, so it's more like a boat/plane ride. Plus I'm leasing the car, so I'd need to save it and just turn it in when the lease is up.

I don't know about BMW's leasing dept when it comes to checking everything when returning a leased vehicle....

Several years ago, I leased a Lincoln Navigator for 3 years(yes, the reverse of a midlife crisis because I never had a nice big SUV). I returned it without the 3rd row bench seat. I didn't realize this until a couple of months later. I had removed it and left it in my basement because I had no use for the 3rd row.

I called the guy at the Lincoln dealer who accepted Navigator at lease end. He told me that he would find out what to do. He emailed back 2 days later and told me to just dispose of the 3rd row seat. I kept the email just in case. I never did get rid of the seat. It sat in my basement for probably 3 years. The seat was quite heavy and I just didn't feel like dragging it upstairs. When I was moving, I left the seat at the curb with a sign that said "FREE!(from a Navigator)" It was gone the next morning.
