"Its more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow" is what I've always been told.

I feel like these are people trying to show you that they can drive faster than you in your expensive fancy car. It's terrible when I drive my 911, not quite as bad in the Macan and never happens in my F250. I really only drive the 911 on back roads now just to avoid the a$$h0les. Unfortunately I have to drive to DC area and people cut me off, pull out in front of me, or buzz past me much more often.

That video is hilarious. I’m more worried about left lane hogs then I am people going 100 mph. I’m certainly not going to take a revenue generator very seriously about pretending to be concerned about it. It’s about money.

I see more Mercedes AMGs C43, C63, and BMWs M3,4,5, etc., blow by me than any other car brand.
Sometimes Subaru's and Challengers, but mostly AMG Mercedes and M BMWs. |

Many ppl are lousy drivers, it's just that there are way more mundane cars vs sportscars, that's all. A lot of ppl have NO CLUE whatsoever, esp speeding in rain and snowstorms, just asking for it.

Why is this surprising?
Continually increasing HP and improved driver's aids. I was shocked back when I learned a Maxima had 250 HP now they're at 300HP What scares me is seeing minivans ripping along. Loved the black car in the video 100+ in the rain and no driver's license or proof of insurance. Surprised they didn't haul him in and tow the vehicle. He'll be in driver's school and his insurance is probably going to skyrocket. |

As elitist as this sounds...
Most people driving nicer cars tend to have higher incomes and be better educated, hence better impulse control and understanding of the consequences of their actions. A lot of cheaper cars, notably the likes of Altimas Challengers used luxury sedans etc., tend to be driven by folks with poorer credit who make poorer life decisions and that translates to how they drive. All generalizations of course, it's not like I'm a saint behind the wheel either. Younger guys with performance-oriented cars will be prone to d-bag behavior no matter how much they earn. Everybody should be taken at face value and not judged by how they look or what they drive...

A friend of mine is a Texas state trooper, he said once when he was a rookie he'd see three or four triple digit speeders a week. Nowadays he'll see that in a day.
He thinks it's the cars, even the slow ones are built better than they used to be and people generally drive the speed they're comfortable with. He also said distracted driving is by far the most dangerous activity on the road today.

Agreed, and adding to that list is generally improved NVH across the board. I had a 2014 Jetta (non-GLI) with a nothing-special 1.8 turbo, and I'd hit 100 on that thing without feeling like I was about to be ejected from the driver's seat at any minute . Very unlike my 1990 Toyota pickup, which would make it a point to let me know the second I'd reach 60 mph by giving me a prostate massage and violent boob jiggle.

There isn’t a rhyme or reason to which cars drive above the speed limit. Very few people stay at it or below it. Cars going over 100MPH? I haven’t paid attention enough to them to look for a pattern. People move and I use the lanes correctly to not impede traffic so I don’t’ get concerned about it.
I have on occasion easily driven well over 100MPH in my BMW even. It isn’t a big deal or some sort of flex. Cops care about easy revenue and speed enforcement gives them that. They can sit in their car munching on Dunkin’ Donuts waiting for their radar to blip before they go chase down a “danger on the road”. Meanwhile they never seem interested in chasing down left lane hogs, tailgaters, weavers, people doing 20 under in the left lane, and so many other actual hazards. To each their own though. |

A very good point back in the 80's my first car a 1.6 capri (76 mk.2), man btt you got to 95 (and thats MPH) the think rattled and shook like a female having an orgasm
my 2.8i an 82, I could get it up to 110 (again MPH), and not realise it, one xmas day on an empty m/w I lterally stood on the pedal, and chickens out at just a tad under 120, it STILL had room for more and felt like SILK the BMW, I can get up to 100 (KMPH) by just sneezing but here in Canada 40 over will get you stunt driving, loss of car for 28 days and a court appearance, max 10k and or time in jail Quote:

I recently bought a motorcycle. You should watch some of the videos of these guys post.
Redlining at 186 MPH is common while weaving around cars! All it'll take is for one of the drivers to actually be paying attention...looking in their rearview and seeing a motorcycle coming up on them and then moving to the right at the same time the motorcycle is... I'm very, very surprised that I'm not reading about these guys dying left and right. |

gotta love Texas lol. I get passed quite frequently by all kinds of cars at asinine speeds. I play around some times. cuz, what are M cars for? But not when there is any type of traffic. I had 2 bimmers blow past me like I was sitting still while I was doing 90~. Shook my GFs car and scared the crap out of her lol.
I also constantly get chargers, challengers, Infinitis, camaros, and mustangs that think they are hot poo. I let my GF drive the M4 to the store last week and soem guy in a rousch mustang trying to race her at the light. her daughter got a video of him at the next light saying "WTF, I was not expecting that!" while they laughed at him. twas funny but i was also like WTF, she isnt driving the M anytime soon. |

Personally, I much prefer driving quick rather than fast. It’s the acceleration that I love. Plus, ticket costs and insurance penalties are brutal.
SH 130 in Austin (near COTA) with the 85 mph speed limit is pretty close to me and one can “safely” cruise 90 - 95 without fear of a ticket. People routinely pass me doing 100 - 110 mph which is great ….. I’m more than happy to let them get the ticket |
