Panoramic Sunroof - Is it worth it?

Is the panoramic sunroof worth the extra €1200 ($1300/£1050)? Does it actually add noticeable difference to the overall feeling of space in the cabin?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

I went for it as I have it in my 3 series. It really does make the cabin feel a lot lighter and I prefer driving with the sunroof open when it's sunny than having the aircon or windows open.

Yes it does. I love it on mine, it is a little slower than my GLA was to open but you can fully open with voice controls.

Thank you! I was thinking of adding it to my order but I wasn’t sure if it really added anything noticeable in terms of cabin space feel. Now I’m convinced

Thanks

I’m going to counter, we have it on both cars now and it benefits the kids more than the driver really. We haven’t gone for it on the X1 this time, had an issue with it as well that factored into the decision.

Does it add more light of course it does but also weight and potential for more issues, plus she never ever opened it so that is another element to factor in.

Thanks! That’s good to know.

I think I would benefit quite a lot from the extra light. I’m coming from an X5 with a light headliner and brown seats. With the X1, I ordered the alcantara seats and black headliner.

Go for it, we will have the car for longer drives with it and my wife’s car without.

She nearly just added everything but decided against it in the end, and I her words words, I’m not bother about the roof so off the spec it went.

personally, I would not get the panoramic roof if possible. but unfortunately that is not possible in the U.S. if the buyer wants the premium package.

the reason is that only the front part of the glass opens. if the entire panoramic roof can somehow slide away and leave a giant opening, then I"m all for it.

I always spec the sunroof. Really good in all seasons.

I would’ve appreciated if the sunroof came as part of the premium package! Wouldn’t have given me this dilemma. But hey, at least you get the adaptive cup holders as standard!…or at all. In Europe we don’t get that luxury

I don't think any pano s/r does this.

To the OP, do you like having a s/r? If so, you should get it. I think it's great, but I also wouldn't want this car without any s/r at all.

In my 2014 Countryman JCW, both panes vent open, but only the front pane slides open. Not sure if the X1’s rear pane also vents or if it’s totally fixed, but having both panes at least vent is nice.

But the Countryman's roof is different. It's more like dual sunroofs, not a pano sunroof. There's a break between the 2 panels in the Countryman.

Most pano sunroofs, the rear panel is fixed. That's how it is in the X1.

Yeah, when I bought it they called it “dual pane panoramic sunroof”. The top of the car looks like 2 pieces of glass next to each other (which is what I normally see). But looking in the interior, it is certainly 2 separate panels.

I was thinking of the Mercedes skyview sunroof that I had many years ago. Glad that I traded it in before needing repairs, since repairs/replacement can easily exceed USD$6000 even 15 years ago.yes, about the same price as replacing the engine or transmission back then. Just look at the ridiculous number of parts involved. Although, it was the most fun sunroof I ever had. With the roof completely open and all the windows down, it almost felt like driving a convertible SUV.

Sunroofs can be more trouble than they’re worth and if you’re tall (over 6ft 2 say) they impinge on headroom.

They can cause issues too, there is an X1 in my local dealer that’s been in for a month (and the demo X1 taken out of operation as a service loan) becUse they can’t fix the leaking roof (try as they might!)

true, but nothing beats having a big opening above your head while driving down the M6 in single-digit temperatures!
