is there any coating I can apply to the rear camera so I can see stuff in heavy rain?
Yesterday, my area had probably the heaviest rainfall in over a year. It got so heavy that the interstate that I was driving on became standstill more than 3 times. ALL drivers stopped because it became impossible to see.(even the usual idiot drivers stopped, so it was bad)
when I got to where I was going, the rain was still going strong. I was backing up and the rear camera was hit by so much rain that everything was basically a blur. I had to reverse the old fashion way... looking at the mirror and turning my neck around. is there any coating or polish that I can safely apply to the rear camera so it can see even in super heavy rain? (stuff like Rain-X or something safer or more effective?) Thanks! |

I use Gyeon Wet Coat on my car and it’s been working pretty well for me. I usually reapply once every few weeks. Doesn’t keep the camera perfectly clean, but works good enough.

Is it this $22.99 bottle on Amazon? Can it be sprayed on the windshield without affecting wiper performance? |

Soft99 Glaco mirror coat zero. This is pure magic. I’d love to use it for the side-view mirrors, but unfortunately it’s not recommended for heated mirrors
But it is absolutely amazing on the cameras! |

That’s the stuff. Just spray on the car after a wash and then rinse. It’s a touch less spray and lasts up to 8 weeks depending on driving conditions. For me, about 3-5 weeks depending on the weather here. Works on all surfaces, and a little goes a long way. You spray the top of the panel and the runoff will cover the lower parts, then just a light mist on any spots that aren’t covered. They also have a window coating that has a traditional application that I bought but haven’t tried yet.

I’ve heard great things about this too but it’s harder to get at a reasonable price where I am. Was planning to pick some up the next time I go to Japan.

They really do have great products. I've been using Soft99 products on my cars since as early as 1983. On a 2nd gen Honda Civic hatchback, which was the first car that I drove in my life.(without a driver's license) This Soft99 TV commercial was taken from a video that I originally recorded on my old 1981 Sony Beta VCR back on Oct. 18, 1983. (yes, 40 years ago... I'm that ancient... and that same Beta VCR still works as of last week) Last edited by SpaceSilver.X1; 01-07-2024 at 07:19 PM.. |

they are standard in the US... heat up when the ambient temps gets cold enough. (although no idea what the threshold is.... on my former Mercedes, it was around 48 degrees or lower)
From page 104 of the owner's manual: Automatic heating Both exterior mirrors are automatically heated as needed and when the drive-ready state is switched on |

Yeah, been using the Gyeon Iron wheel cleaner and it works great. Just spray on and rinse off. Totally safe for the calipers and pads. Once a month I’ll take the wheels off so I can pressure wash the back sides.

Thanks! I mean the Gyeon Wet Coat spray.(not the wheel cleaner) I was just ordering one via their Amazon store. They seem to suggest that it can be sprayed on wheels as well? |

The Wet Coat works great, safe on all surfaces. It does not last as long on the wheels as it does on the rest of the car though
