Radio on/off with engine start/stop?
Is there a setting to make the radio turn on only when you start the engine and turn off when you stop the engine?
It seems to turn on anytime I open my driver's door. It turns off on opening the door from a setting in ID8, but I'd rather it turn off with the engine. |

It is really weird default behavior I'm not sure who actually likes that. It's especially annoying if you want to get something out of your car or clean it and the music turns on. Between that and the proximity lock unlock it's pretty odd if you have a garage.
My old F30 would keep the radio on when you turned off the engine, but hitting the start engine button a second time would shut it off. |

Not an option when I tried that. Can you provide a screenshot showing that option how you did it on your X1?

I had it set to FM radio and muted. Opened the door, no music at first, then it automatically started playing something from Android auto when I didn't change the audio source. |

I think that option will only showup if there's a USB stick currently installed on one of the USB ports. I tried it without any USB stick and no option was available. I'll see if I can get a USB stick that has a USC-C connection to see if that works. All my current sticks have the older connection but I think I have an adapter somewhere.

Be careful what you plug into the port. Maybe I'm being too careful but after all the hacks and attacks that source from thumb dives I only use name brand devices. And even those can be counterfeit.
There are right angle adapters that allow the stick card reader to sit out of the way |

Not sure checking a thumb drive via an in service computer is the wise move.
The code for these attacks can be malicious or just to communicate with a server that could send data where it's instructed. Or await instructions from a third party. Buying data devices from unknown sources puts you at risk. How's big a risk is unknowable but it's there |

Tried the USB stick but the USB option only shows up if a USB device is connected. No option to set the USB device as the "default". No big deal. I usually have the radio on anyway but it would be nice to have the radio (and display in general) to be disabled unless needed.

Then not a valid workaround as I would need to change from radio to USB prior to shutting off the vehicle every day to stop the radio from playing when engine is next started.

I tried disabling the auto play setting in Android auto, but the car doesn't honor it and starts playing music anyway.
Muting with the volume wheel before shutting the car off seems to work, although I'm pretty sure if it changes sources (e.g. if you were using your phone then didn't connect it next time) then audio starts playing again from a different source like the radio. |
