2023 U11 Black Kidney Grills
Just picked up my U11 X1. It is Black Sapphire. Mine is not M, but I really like the look of the M version with the black kidney grills. Does anyone have with photos they can share? Also, does anyone know the part number(s) to change mine out? I think there is the one-piece grill and centerpiece? Any assistance would be appreciated....Thanks!

I love how they look on a black X1. Genuine BMW U11 X1 28iX Gloss Black (Shadowline) Front Grille - Part Number 51-13-5-A0B-B85 https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...b3J5IFBhZ2U%3D yes, I know the original BMW shadowline is expensive... I do not recommend getting the black grille from eBay for $90. Last edited by SpaceSilver.X1; 02-10-2024 at 01:29 PM.. |

Although you will have to double check if the all black grill/ M sport grill fits on a non-M Sport trim. Looking at the photos of X-line and M Sport trims, there seems to be a lot of difference in body contour, which makes me think that the grilles are not interchangeable. |

There was another thread and it sounded like you need to practically hire a body shop to do it because you need to remove the bumper or something.
https://u11.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2043596 I was going to look into it until I started reading things like that. |

Cost=WOW
I just got a price quote for the grill without labor to install....$775!! Wow! It's either not do it, or take a chance with China aftermarket on ebay...

my co-worker had his '21 X7 grill wrapped in black and it still looks pretty good after 2 years. not to mention that it protects the grille from small rock chips, which my X1 grill already got one a couple of weeks ago.... on one of the vertical slats |

There's no way I'd get a Chinese knock off for something like that. What's the break down of parts vs labor? IIRC, black kidney grills for my 328 were about $200, and most people reported that install was easy. Not sure for the X1.

Bought one from China that just came. I'll let you know how the install goes after I do it over the weekend.
P.S. My friend bought one as an original part and was very impressed with the quality of the one I've received. Pics to follow. |

This is just my opinion but having a black grill on the xline looks off to me. I think if you’re gonna do it then you need to black out all the silver pieces. But if you want to experiment with looks for super low cost you can try plasti dip. I’ve dipped many things in the past and it holds up reasonably well. Tons of YouTube videos on how to do it.

Finished placing the grille today.
Since I don't use Driver Assistant - no need for the sensor to be plugged in. Capped it off and put the black panel on. Easy. No warnings or malfunctions present. Crash sensor still works. Everything looks good. There will be pics later, car is a little dirty at the moment. |

Correction to my previous post:
I tried Driver Assistant Pro today on the way home from work. It was fully in function without the plug that comes off the radar behind the center piece of the grille plugged in. I have no idea what the plug is used for but everything is in working order. I do not plan to use DAP ever again - I hate cruise control and the idea that a car can/should drive itself. I bought the Chinese full black grille with the smooth front plate, put a blank on the plug that attaches to the center plate and hid it behind the radar. Everything fits perfect and it looks really good. Pictures and information to follow in my personal thread, the general picture thread, the aftermarket tire thread, and this thread...I've made promises to various people for different looks on aftermarket parts and general look of the "All Black" X1. |

Anyone have any recommendations on how to get black mirror caps for 2023 BMW U11 X1 28i? Mine are white currently.
I have the black grille and black wheels put on but can’t seem to find black mirror caps. I spoke with BMW parts and they stated BMW only has the white caps or primer caps. Do I need to get them painted to find black mirror caps? Thanks everyone! |

I’ve finally managed to place an order for the M35i mirror caps and retaining rings. Should be delivered in the next 2 weeks. The mirror caps do indeed only come primed from BMW, so I’ll have to get them painted, but I’ll check fitment first just in case |
