Lightbulb Can we upgrade the entire forum please?

My other vehicle is a Jeep (jlwranglerforum) and I've been so spoiled by the way their forum works. You can copy and paste images right into your post, paste youtube links and it will automatically embed a video into your post, resize the photos you upload and much more. I don't know how these forum stuff works, but that would be a nice upgrade for a luxury car forum. I feel like I'm back in ICQ days on this forum.

This software looks like it hasn’t upgraded since the early 2000’s. Really crappy. Maybe they don’t have the volume of sponsors like other forums? Even a small old truck forum I use can store/host any number of photos you upload.

I know our little discussion here won't do much but am curious if any mod might have insight on a possibility of an update? The one thing I'd really like is to click on a thread and be taken to the first post that I haven't read yet. Right now it just goes to the top of the page.

Unless there's a way to do that and I just don't know it.

Feels like a huge, popular forum and I'm a little surprised it hasn't changed (that I can see) in the decade plus I've used it. I'd be willing to pay a few bucks for upgraded features if that's what it took. I suppose maybe most people wouldn't...

Sounds like you don't know how to use vBulletin. This feature has been available since the beginning.

Difference is on other forums you click the thread title and it takes you to the first unread. On here you have to click the tiny little box or click into the thread and THEN click another link to view first.

Just easier to do elsewhere

So what if you don't want to go to the first unread? Doesn't sound easier if it doesn't give you the option.

Big forums with custom code are extremely difficult to update/upgrade with loads of downtime.

And this forum has all the functionality one needs anyway.

Don't fix what's not broken.

This. I bet the owners/company are not enthusiasts.

Enthusiasts enjoy their cars, not complain about outdated forum software.

You can click the little arrow icon to the left of the thread title. Of course you have to be logged in for the forum to know what the last read post was

Disagree entirely. Enthusiast love to talk about their cars as such forums came to be.

Then we wonder why forums are of a dying breed and people are gravitating to those shitty Facebook groups.... websites need to keep up with the times. Granted, Bimerpost isn't that bad in terms of how it looks IMO, but yeah it does seem to lack some more modern features from what I'm reading in here.

Wrong wrong wrong. In the IT world, if you do not keep up, you will be left behind. As such it is a must to upgrade and update your website over time.

EDIT: And yep, Alvin's reply below me is exactly my sentiment as well and I see this myself in my own professional world.

This is what happen when you have old people running monopoly company, they don't want to spend money if they don't have to. Just like my current and previous company, using outdated software and crappy computer to run modern software, thing takes 10 minutes just to login. Newer and bigger company with more money run by young startups will have better facilities, software, computers and everything else. They are just going to tell you if it ain't broke don't fix or this isn't our priority. This is why some company just stay in the same place and don't improve, because they don't have competition so they can do whatever they want.
