Drivers Assistance Permanently Disabled Warning

I just got this error:
Drivers Assistance Permanently Disabled

I was driving and all was working fine. Now I cannot find any reference to the error and DA+ seems to be working fine.
FYI: The steering wheel was just replaced because the red stripe was off center.

Do I need to take it in?

Hellooo,

I'm sorry for your experience and I hope all is ok!

Is there any chance you have a picture of the error message on the screen?

Did you receive any other error message on the myBMW app?

If not, there is no harm bringing it to your BMW service center to have it looked at. When/If you go to your service center, have them do a key read to see if the error message/warning was logged - if it is, that can further provide evidence that your X1 is causing you some concern.

If they find no problem at all, I'd encourage you to make sure your X1's software is up to date and document any errors/glitches/malfunctions that may arise (i.e., take a picture of the error signs or warnings and take a video if you can) - it helps the service department get to the bottom of things if the problem is replicated and to make sure they understand the situation. Why do I mention this? I mention this because of "Murphy's Law" - of course your X1 behaves itself and has no problems whatsoever the moment you pull into the service drive (insert rolling my eyes emoji here)

That said, please keep us posted and let us know what happens, but I hope this was just a weird one-off!

Please stay safe out there!

PS - I assume you are referring to Driver Assistance - PLUS and NOT Driver Assistance - Professional

Did it work the next time you drove after your car was parked and off for a short time?

If you are using the driving assistance and usuing your phone and completing looking away from the road the car can see that and will disable the service for that ride.

Also if you drive with your hand at 12 o’clock it will block the sensor that looks at your eyes and will also disable driving assistance

This is for the DA PLUS.

I took it in. They said there was a litany of communication errors: DA+, blind spot detection, CC functions, etc. The camera control unit needed to be reprogrammed, as well as a fresh operating system. (Great, I have to set it up AGAIN).

Hopefully it’s fixed this time.

Yes it did.
No. I wasn’t on my phone and my hands are better 9-10 and 2-3 o’clock.

I wonder what BMW dealers charge to perform all that, once the vehicle is out of factory warranty.

Had a similar thing happen on a Mercedes. Fortunately, it was still under warranty(with 2 months remaning) because the service advisor told me that it would have been almost $1100 to do all the calibration of the cameras to get Distronics working again.(Distronics is the name Mercedes uses for their adaptive cruise control) It might have been partly my fault because I disconnected the battery for almost 2 months while I was traveling overseas. But I didn't tell them that, of course.

Well then. I’ve had this happen a few times and I’m almost certain it’s because I was texting.

I get a warning when I’m driving with one hand at 12 o’clock.

(disclaimer: do NOT try this)

when using driving assistance plus, the system is fine with my cat's paws on the steering wheel around the 6 o'clock position.

(got the idea from this video of the cat who drives a Tesla)

That’s concerning. I’ve had this error twice and completely ignored it since I found no reference to it in the menus.
